Just a few queries on the HTC Desire....

I'm looking at upgrading from my W995 to a HTC Desire but just wondered about the following:

1) Does it sync the calendar OK with Microsoft Outlook? (I use this a lot for work!)
2) Does it come with any sort of storage expansion card? (I'm getting it on o2 btw)
3) Are the internet speeds comparible with the i-phone? (assuming 3G coverage anyway!)
4) Does it support flash?
5) Is it Skype compatible?

Thanks for any help with this guys! I know there is a lot of info that probably answers the above but these were the specific things I was worried about!

Cheers,

StevieP

1: Yup
2: Yup - normall 4gb microsd but some providers offer different (got 16gb on my Vodafone contract).
3: My Desire seems faster than my colleagues iPhone.
4: It will when Froyo (android 2.2) is officially released (I'm frunning froyo now and flash 10.1 working aok).
5: Couldn't answer that - never used Skype.

To expand a bit (and there is a desire thread, you should have asked in there).

1) It can sync via exchange, outlook (standalone) and has access to the global address book
3) They will be the same realistically, no one radio is quicker than the other at receiving data. The bigger problems are rendering speeds and aerial position.
4) It has Flash Lite out the box - this will do simplistic flash things like adverts, the odd bbc video, but as Amigafan said - 2.2 will include full flash.
5) Fring (an app) did support skype till about 2 days ago but they seem to be having some kind of turf war. I think there's an official client for skype but I couldn't find much out about it sorry. If it's not around, it likely will be soon.

Thanks for the replies guys (sorry, didnt realise there was a dedicated thread!)

I've never ventured for a smart phone before but I'm VERY tempted!!!!

There is no official Skype client for Android that uses the data network, there's one which will call a national number and connect you via that call to a skype contact, and it works pretty well (I think it does incoming calls the same way so receiving calls will cost) but no "proper" one. (3 do a version for their phones that only works on their network, but they have hardware that does the same connecting a call trick which is why they don't charge for it).

I moved from a Touch HD to a Desire* and it's the best move I ever made the Android OS is a revelation.

*not quite true, technically I moved from a Touch HD to an iPhone but I didn't like it so sent it back after two weeks.

3. I logged 2000kbps download/350 upload the other day.
4. Also supprised with flash lite, loads of content runs smoothly (BBC news imbeded movies etc)

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

I've taken the plunge and gone for the Desire - should be here tomorrow or Thursday!! :D

What are the "essential" apps and where is the best place to get them from??

Also, the guy at o2 said the internet/wi-fi "bolt-on" was included - are there many wi-fi "hot-spots" outside of London that I can take advantage of? Most wi-fi spots I know of are in cafe's & airports etc and generally cost money!?!?

Cheers,
