Hey all,
I have just upgraded my motherboard from the Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i to the Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (due to faulty board/better for CPU overclock + the decision not to go Sli). First of all it was a REAL pain to get the Zalman cooler i have fitted on again, i had to take the cooler off a few times too, and screw in pretty hard to get it fitted again, but there was a good spread of the arctic silver across the CPU so it should be okay i hope...
First of all i have 2 messages on boot,
South Bridge Overheat Protecton!
No IDE Master HDD Detected!
I know the IDE problem i have to turn off IDE in BIOS right? But what about the SB problem? What should i do about that? :S Is there any other settings in the BIOS i should tweak too?
Edit: i read that flashing the BIOS to the latest version may fix my "overheat" error?
Also, as i have just fitted the board in last night, i guess i will need to flash the BIOS, which is the best version to go for and best way to flash the BIOS for this board?
Below are the other main parts i have for the build, and going to be checking the temps out a bit more tonight. At the moment i have Speedfan and the ASUS PC Probe utility, which is the best to use as i heard speedfan isn't the best? I think my CPU temp read around 50C without being under load :S Thought it should be lower.
Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Sound Card
Thanks a lot guys, any feedback and tips would be good! Haven't actually replaced a mobo yet with a current system
