Hi guys finally going too upgrade from my trusted old room heater a 480 GTX. I tend too play at 1080 max as I have very bad eye sight although I have a 1440 monitor.

I have been looking at the 970 and the 390 cards and the 390 seems too have a slight edge but what is putting me off the AMD card is it seems a lot of people are complaining about the drivers. So can someone please tell me just how bad are the AMD drivers?

Also I am sure this is asked a lot but what edition of the cards are the best too actually purchase?

AMD drivers are no worse/better than Nvidia ones. I use both atm and have for the last couple years on a variety of machines.
390's are a cracking card at current prices and what i'd recommend

A lot of the time people that perpetuate the "AMD drivers suck" myth are people who don't even have an AMD card or who had an odd issue years ago and "omg I'm never buying AMD ever again!" without understanding that issues will crop up for ANY hardware company on occasion, including Nvidia (GeForce forums will attest to that).

I'd also go for the 390.

Drivers wise most people don't have a problem with them, of course very few do but that could happen with either companies cards.

The drivers for a single GPU are just as good as NVIDIA's. I've been using AMD GPU's for years without problems.

The 390 is slightly faster than a 970, has double the VRAM, and is cheaper. It's literally a no-brainer at this stage.

Single card drivers were always fantastic for me when I ran AMD (up until about 6 months ago). Multi card drivers from both camps seem to have their own issues but you don't need to worry about those.

I'd go with the 390 especially at 1440. (I went from a 970-290) Didnt really notice any difference to be honest at 1080p

AMD and NVIDIA's drivers are pretty much the same for single cards, its pretty rare to get any issues now tbh. Can't comment on sli/crossfire but I have heard of issues from both sides tbh.

As I have terrible eye sight I wont have a need for a dual graphics card and this is one of the reasons that I just want as little hassle in my new card as possible the 390x on offer at the moment is really tempting. I

I wouldn't say the 390 is cheaper to be honest, the cheapest 390 on here is £10 dearer than the cheapest 970, whereas like for like, say the MSI gaming card the 390 is on offer £7 cheaper than the MSI 970.

It is a tad faster, and it does have twice the memory though.

Get the 390. As everyone said above, usually the issues with the drivers have to do with dual gpu setups.

However I would have spend £50 more, for the 390X at £280 the 1080OC version isn't something to ignore.

As for the drivers, everyone above covered me. NVIDIA is as bad as AMD atm on drivers. A quick read on the last couple of pages of the relevant thread you will read a lot of complains. As many as on AMD driver discussion. So relax :D
And usually has to do with Gsyncs, Freesyncs, Dual CPUs, cables, CF/SLI profiles etc.
