I've decided on the specification for my new PC, it's just having browsed through these forums I'm just a little unsure what choice to make on my motherboard. Of course I am constricted to a budget but it's basically a toss up between 3 motherboards which is the last hurdle really.

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard?

or

Asus P5KC Combo Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard?

or

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard?

I've been recommended the Gigabyte boards, especially the DS3R but I would like a Firewire port, hence the DS3P possibility.

I like the Asus board as that comes heavily recommended, it's got really good reviews, also has a Firewire port and I've found Asus boards to be extremely reliable. I'm not bothered about DDR3 just yet but it's a scaleable feature nevertheless.

Again, I've heard the Abit board is very good for overclocking, very solid, etc.

I'm snapping up an E6750, 2GB of PC5300 Crucial Ballistix, X1950Pro, Corsair 520W, WD 160GB SATA and a Tuniq Tower Cooler, for a little background information there.

I'm presuming any of the 3 is good but I only intend to clock the CPU up to around 3 - 3.2Ghz (only doing it on air), play BF2142, Crysis (I can't afford an 8800 till Xmas), and for studying (Office, Adobe, Macromedia, etc).

Thanks for all advice and patience at such a familiar thread!

Personally I would go with the Gigabyte board, they seem to be the favorite around here.

They're very good overclockers as well.

I am definitely tempted. I'm prepared to go for either the Asus or Gigabyte for definite. They are basically the same price, have firewire capability, both P35 boards, etc.

The only difference I can see is that the Asus looks more snazzy!
