i just wonderd if it was actually possible to play ps1/ps2 games on a ps3
some people tell me you can some people say the opposite

ive got the 60gb and just fancy gettin some old school games like rosh rash etc

Most games are backwards compatible, some aren't though but that is a rare exception.

60Gb youll be able to play most PS1 and PS2 games just fine.

40Gb/80Gb PS3s just PS1 games unfortunately, no PS2 GFX chip.

Quite why they decided the put the abortion engine in to start with then take it out pretty much straight away is beyond me.

Backwards compatibility is important to a lot of people yet the RRP for 60Gbs was £425. Obviously this is too high for a lot of people so removing the gfx chip as well as a number of other little things reduced cost and RRP.

Didn't know PS1 games were playable on PS3. Means I can at least start meta gear series from 1.... still need to buy a PS2 for the others though

Unless they [Sony] announce software PS2 compatibility at their 18th August press conference... One can dream.
