Many Thanks

Depending on how bad the finish of your block is start with 400 then up to 800 then 1200. For a mirror like finish you will have to go with 1600 and then possibly 2000.

i have a motorcycle helmet which the visor has gone smokey from lots and lots of small scratches. can the the shiney surface be retained from lapping sandpaper?

Possibly, but it could just make it go cloudy/blurry which would be no good. I would only try it if the scratches were so bad I'd have to replace the helmet unless I repaired them.

Not going to work. Tried to get rid of scraches on a pair of prescription sunglasses (plastic lenses) and failed horribly. That was with 4000 grit 'liquid sandpaper as well :(

o, well we had these tooth paste which worked. but it was only a small tube my dad got from the airplane, and was the only one that worked.
