Relative idiot when it comes to hardware specs, so just want to do a quick check to ensure everything is compatible there (already have a psu and a graphics card) before I press checkout! If I've gone for more expensive items where a cheaper alternative will do I'd be keen for constructive criticism - do I need the extra fans?

Thanks in advance

What are you going to use your computer for?

The i7 has hyper threading, which is not needed by games for instance.

Do you have any SATA drives lying around, HDD prices will drop in the new year.

Your CPU and motherboard uses dual channel memory and you're buying tripple channel memory.

This is why I asked, Thanks for the responses guys :)!

@ Loke mainly gaming - I already have a Graphics Card I'm keen to scavange - its only about a year old.

@ Stulid I've got:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 OC 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Cooler Master GX 650W '80 Plus' Power Supply

Updated build:

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502HJ)

BitFenix Shinobi Gaming Case - Black

Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B)

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366)

LG GH24NS70 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Akasa AK-191-SM Smoke Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin x 2

Any more critique would be awesome. Is there -absolutely- no point in an i7 given that i want the CPU to last me a long time?

Get Corsair XMS3 RAM its shorter so will fit under the heatsink.

Then I cant see a problem with the build.

It's very hard to know what the future brings in regard to CPUs, but at the moment the biggest games see no real benefit except the actual mhz speed of the cpu in the i5 vs i7.

But I think by the time games start using hyperthreading to full extent, new hardware will be out and it's probably time to upgrade....and afaik the new ivybridge cpus will use the same socket as the sandybridge ones...but check with Stulid, he's much more experienced and reads up on these things more than me :)
