Just about to install my 6600k and wondering if i really need to use the "CPU Installation Tool" or can i just bung it on without it. Never got one before with any of my old builds. Just seems a bit wrong having a piece of plastic so close to the potentially very hot cpu.

The plastic being on the CPU is fine, your CPU would die before the plastic melted. As for the tool, I didn't use mine.

The only reason they've included them is because one of the most common causes of broken motherboards is bent pins and that tool pretty much nullifies the possibility of bending them.

Just used mine to insert a 6700k into the socket on my Sabertooth S board, first time using the tool.
If the board comes with the tool I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to use it, considering the potential damage if you don't..?

It just seems like a good idea to me.
