I have laptops and a shuttle system for everything else.
I am getting another gaming rig later on in the year too, so not that fussed about the GFX card in this one.
I have a studio and this spec is just to upgrade it, thanks.

Hmm, I agree you've got a mega CPU for average tasks.

The zalman cooler probably isn't the best price/performance out there, maybe the intel version of an Artic Freezer 64 Pro?

You might want to consider the Scythe Ninja HS. Get a nice quiet 120mm fan for it and it will provide excellent cooling and near silence. Handy if it is for a studio...

The only thing I need from the GRX card is none shared memory with the system and dual head for 2 monitors.

When I say music, I will be running programs such as Cubase SX3 and as many VST instruments running as the CPU will allow.

Ideally, I would like a CPU cooler that was in stock so I could order it all at once.

Thanks again for the great advice. :)

the 7300 will do the graphics job and the cheapest conroe will do the software. you can overclock too if necessary. for silence a heatsink with a big fan would be your best bet.
