...but need another pair of eyes to make sure theres no unforeseen problems with this media centre build:

Already have:
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 630 3.00GHz (Socket LGA775)
Hitachi Deskstar 80Gb 7200rpm
Lite-On DVD-Rom
NEC ND-3540A DVD-RW

To Buy:
Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD ATI, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800
SilverStone 'SUGO' Evolution SG01B Black Case
Silverstone SST-NT06 Lite
430w Seasonic S12II-430 aPFC PSU Silent ATX2.0 *New v2

And just need to spec ram and some sort of PCIe dual digital tuner.

What speed of ram is best to go for? 4200? 5400? 6400? 1Gb enough? 2Gb Overkill?

Anybody have any recommendations on a tuner? Various available, Hauppage, Compro, Fusion, Black Gold, Terratec

Any input greatly appreciated

Get the 2gb RAM, not like it's expensive! :)

Not sure on the TV tuner front, think it comes down to personal preference to a certain extent. And as I don't have one, I can't offer a suggestion :p

What speed though, for that processor? I think it had PC-4200 with it originally

Think im going to go with 2gb of Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC5400 (Because its the same price as the 4200), will this work ok with the P4 630 and the Abit F-I90HD?

Allows for future upgrade to a Core 2 Duo as well

Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT MCE TV Card would probably do? Depends how cheap you can get it though. Also why not get a C2D E2140 now? It will run a lot cooler than your p4 (prescott?).

Yes...im very tempted......but i keep pushing my budget up :p

Slightly revised spec then, what do we reckon? (Look what you made me do fobose!):
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160, Socket 775, 1.8 GHz, 800MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 2x 512KB Cache, Retail

1GB (2x512MB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400(800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP

Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD ATI, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800

SilverStone 'SUGO' Evolution SG01B Black Case w/o PSU

Silverstone SST-NT06 Lite

430w Seasonic S12II-430 aPFC PSU Silent ATX2.0 *New v2
Plus, probably the Terratec tuner or a Black Gold one second hand

I can always upgrade the ram to 2gb a bit later anyway, not sure it really needs it anyway

Looks good, you wont really be needing 2GB of ram for a media center PC anyway, but you still have the option to if you deem it neccesary ;)

What graphics card are you using for the rig?

<edit> ah I see it has onboard ATi graphics, nm. You could prob save some money if you use an old PSU you have laying around and get a 20-> 24pin adapter if needed.

I have 2GB and am currently watching Gladiator HDTV (720p) and I have 1.5gb of ram free, and I also have a few IE's open, outlook, msn, winamp etc..
