£100 fine and 3 points in my license.

Don't mind the straight fine, but I'm more concern how that will affect my insurance renewal. Any ideas what to expect to pay more?

I currently pay yearly £380 on my 2013 Audi A3.

Realistically, it shouldn't matter below 6pts... however Insurers assess risk on such a wide range of things, they can justify a high premium for literally anything...

Car too cheap? Therefore you won't care about it.
Car standard price? People will steal parts from it.
Car expensive? People will steal it or damage it jealously.

There can often be no rhyme or reason to some quotes, except they have target customers and you don't fit it.

thanks for the quick feedback. Annoyed at myself. It was an gun that was pointing at me. Well I'm up for a renewal at the end of the month so will be looking for quotes again so hopefully it won't budge the premium.

I was told by somebody who has a family member working for an insurance company that sometimes points can go in your favour. If you have points you are less-likely to do anything naughty to get more points which leads to loss of licence.... theres also the chance he was just feeding me The swearing filter is there for a reason. lol

I got done in 2010 doing 68 in a 50 by a policeman and his gun; I was 23 at the time, and it didn't make much, if any difference to my insurance. At the time I still had the MX5 and when I phoned its insurance company to let them know they just said "OK thanks for letting us know" and Admiral (insurer at the time for the Mondeo) didn't even want to know until renewal time.

Was there any reason that you were not offered a speed awareness course the first time round?

It's discretionary, and not all forces run it all the time therefore it's pot luck as to whether you will be offered it.

And as the poster above stated, it depends on how far above the limit you are.

If i was doing anything upto 42 then I would have been offered but got the later instead.

Not proud in doing it, but it was in MK somewhere between all the bloody roundabouts and the roads look at the same so I assume they were 60.

Please would someone think of the Children...

Ive had a few mates caught and 3 points didnt affect their premiums. Seems they use it as a lesson learnt. Ive had a few close calls my self.

Hi,

Sorry to threadbomb, but do you have to tell your insurer when you recieve the 3 points? or just at renewal?

When you get them, your insurance is based on the details you provided at the time you took out the policy. Failing to update them on a change in circumstances can technically invalidate the policy, i.e. you have a prang and claim, they find out you received points and didn't tell them they could refuse to payout. It won't however increase your premium until renewal.
