Just bought this game today and i've had a lot of trouble with it.

Firstly creating a user account, but got there eventually. Now im having a lot of problems connecting to the account server. I click my username and the screen comes up with "Connecting to account server"... and just sits there.

I thought it might have been zonealarm blocking it, so i shut that down and tried it again. Didnt do squat.

I have actually managed to play it once, i sucked, but i aint gonna get any better if i cant even play it. :p

Worst thing is, most of the time when the the screen hangs, i cant get out of it, i have to hit the reset switch, which i really hate doing.

Is there any way to fix this? :(

Way to get round that is to disable your firewall when u connect then ctrl-alt-del out of the game and re-enable then click on the taskbar tab to get back in. You need to find what ports bf2 uses then opwn them in your firewall.

Well i did manage to get in with zonealarm still running.

It seems to be a matter of just leaving it untill its ready to connect, which can take 10 minutes plus!

Other than zonealarm, im running a netgear modem/router, what ports should i have open?

Hmm... it seems that using the single player shortcut and going to multiplayer ingame works fine.

Go figure.

I get this a lot - I think it tries to find a suitable server if you do the MP shortcut - and must get confused or something.

Single player -> Multiplayer button is definitely the way to go.

Have a look in the back of the BF2 manual, and it gives a list of ports that should be opened. There are half a dozen that I had to open before it ran well for me.
