finally after 'much ado' about mainly finances! i have had my new glass arrive. I was after a telephoto prime (the 200L f2.8) but that will have to wait as i have more urgent needs. However i did sell off a few items, namely my 50mm f1.8 mkI and a mkII amongst other stuff.. and decided i needed some new glass! anyway the budget was limited but i found both versions of the 50mm i previously had awesome to use and incrediably useful so i thought i need a replacement. the 2nd hand mkI market is expensive and hard to know how good a one you will get but and for me the mkII is just a little short of the 'Q' mark.

so i am happy to say the 50 USM F1.4 arrived today and is looking lovely :) im not sure if anyone else has one but i will try to put it to good use soon and show you its strengths. apparantly the lens comes into its own at about f2.0 which is absolutely fine as i found the 1.8 around about enough for when i was out clubbing etc. of course having it able to hit 1.4 will be very useful for situations too. overall very happy, yes its expensive but it will be a collection piece for good and im happy its new with warranty etc (all my previous glass has been 2nd hand to some degree) it would be nice to have had a ring USM for that money but i thibk overall its a very nice Q lens. (the rear element is massive! biggest ive ever seen before!)

peace

it is worth pointing out to people however who haven't held/seen one they are a bit plasticy - the mount is metal like the mkI but unlike the mkI the body is pretty much the same material as the mkII

but my god its nice to have a AF that doesn't sound like the dentist is coming to get you :) the mkI was the noisiest thing ive ever heard and jesus it used to hunt all the time!. i have found this one doesn't hunt at all so long as the registered AF point doesn't have a totally solid colour in it.

anyway im very happy but i wont get to the see the results until i go to a gig really or at least evening events as that is what i was planning to use it for mostly. (my test shots have shown mouth watering bokeh though! :D )
