Bought a couple of MTB's for me and the missus (Raleigh AT10's so borderline BSO's), me partly 'cos they are changing the car parking arrangements at work in a few months to it will be easier to cycle and her's so we can go out together riding.

The first over-riding thing I noticed after about an hour and a half total riding yesterday is - I ache and hurt where I didn't think I had muscles. Use the exercise bike a fair bit but this seems a vigorous workout. (Have done 2.5 hours total today). At this rate hope to see the lb's start piling off.

2 - You notice hills far more than when walking, even the "gentle" 1 in 50 or thereabouts of our local old railway track is quite a pull up hill.

3 - Other pedestrians are even more irritating than when on foot. People who won't stay on the correct side of the path, groups who spread out with pushchairs and dogs then won't make a hole for you as you approach. Not to mention getting kippered by Lambert & Butler as you pull past.

Finally, last time I rode a bike you had a little clicker thing that went on the front spokes to record your mileage. Now it's all electronic. Bought one from Tesco and, not helped by microscopic vague instructions, took ages to set up. The Cadenze or whatever it is transmitter flew off down some path somewhere around West Swindon...

All in all though having great fun and I have a feeling will be much more health beneficial than walking or the exercise bike.

Sorry should have made myself clear - these are dual purpose foot/cycle paths I'm referring to, not roadside pavements.

You are a cyclist now, lowest of the low. Don't expect anything from anyone, you are a menace on the road who doesn't pay road tax and you flout the law at every opportunity. You are scum and you knock down old ladies and scare pregnant old ladies.

Welcome to the club.

Yes yes.. Yes.. Yes.. I agree, the life of a cyclist.

My favourite at the moment has to be pedestrians who step out in the road and then look too see if there is a car/cyclist coming.

Also driver's who block cycle sections and those who try to turn into your path when you have right of way.

My favourite part at the moment is catching up with red light jumpers repeatedly, overtaking and then again and again. :D

You've just described my daily commute :p

one of the best bits haha

My worst issue right now is this:

OoFe6h0l.jpg

Cars to the left of image poke their noses out right in to the middle of the road. Then the cars from round the roundabout cut across the cycle lane taking the 'racing' line. So many times I have had to brake just before their front wing takes me out.

I drive down that road all the time too and even when there isn't a bike I take the proper line in to that exit.

They just don't even think or look at all !! I need to carry a police baton or something and next time they try it I'll just put a window out on their car*

*joking

What do you think d-locks are for?

Mine stays locked up in my work cycle park. The bike stays in my flat. Don't ride it anywhere else currently. Need to get a 2nd one for when I do decide to ride other than to work.

Nice idea though haha
