Yep bas***ds! Fortunatly they only took an xbox 360 and laptop :(

Need help with 2 questions:

1. Can anyone reccommend a wireless camera that i can setup in one of the rooms to send a video iamge to a server or network storage device to record. I see there are a few around and didnt know if anyone can reccommend one

2. As my bro had registered his xbox 360 serial number do you think microsoft can "black list" the serial so if its ever used online it will alert them and they can alert the police?

Thanks a lot all, your advice as always is invaluable

haven't got any advise for you but thought i'd say sorry mate. got to be a hard thing to have to take.

i been in that situation a year and a half ago i was burgled lost a lot of gear 3000 pound worth, aint it sad you work hard and some arse just walks in and takes it all away .......... .........

i feel for you :(

Get hold of a shotgun...empty the shot out of the shells...connect the trigger to a trip wire...and remember where you put the trip wire.

They will only try to break in once.

I feel for you mate :(

Had the same kind of trouble here a few years back. Linksys do some nice looking wireless cameras , as do D-Link i seem to remember.

One other thing you could look at doing is getting down to a place like B&Q and getting hold of some conventional wireless security cams ( they do various packs of colour / b&w and wired and wireles ) and then inputting the video stream from the reveiver into an AV or PC-TV card in the server and recording it that way.

Hope this helps mate - hope the laptop wasnt anythign to amazing.

Rgds,

A simple motion activated webcam might suffice?
Incidentally, I just mention this because a few years ago there was a case of a man who was burgled, but had set up a motion activated webcam. He had the video streamed to a server that was well hidden in his house, so that if the thief stole the PC the camera was attached too the video evidence would be safe.

The thief was caught and convicted based on the video evidence of a £20 webcam, and the man got his belongings back.

There was a whole feature on the gadget show a while back, on how you can have all sorts of monitoring and home security self installed, cheaply and easily.
I suggest checking their site, they might have the whole "how to" thing on there.

If you can't find it on their site, I'm sure there must be a podcast or something they can link you to.
TRy and email [email protected] for help.

At work I use InControl software and USB cameras (for monitoring some robotic kit). These can be connected via broadband to an off-site server so your video (of the nasty b*****ds) is secure even if they nick the camera and computer.

You can get the server to contact you if the system is activated and also supoports home automation (so you could, if a burgler breaks in, trigger a sound file, lights going on and off etc..)

The software is a little clunky but is fairly cheap (think around £300 for 4 low-light, wireless cameras, software and USB hub)

Very sorry to hear the bad news.

Just been thinking, what can protect a user from having their computer stolen that has their bank details and other sensitive information stored in Auto Complete? Or isn't there anything except to not use Auto Complete and such form fillers etc?

What also helps is better quality doors and locks to prevent the burglar from entering your house!
not much good if they stick a brick through your window :p sorry to hear that mate hope it all gets returned and there was nothing too private on the laptop

Correct - i didn't include windows in the list. Ofcourse, double-glazing quality locked windows helps as well!!
