It was bound do happen eventually. I've just been caught doing rather excessive speed on the bike.

Over 4 miles I clocked an average speed of 116.9mph. It was a mostly empty 4 lane motorway.

The police were quite pleasent about it. I think they've probably had a day full of it as everyone is out on their bike today.

I asked whats going to happen, and they said I'll get a letter from the CPS asking how I want to plead. The cop said if I plead guilty its unlikely I'll actually have to goto court.

So what do you think I'm looking at here. Ban? :(

Edit - Doh at my typing - my fingers are still shaking a bit. :o

id say your facing a ban, do you have any other motoring convictions?

if not you might be lucky and face a ban of just a few weeks depending how the judge is feeling on the day.

I remember an ep of traffic cops a while ago where i bike was caught doing well over a ton...130mph maybe more iirc. He pleaded to the judge about the conditions, and how he had 4pot brakes etc etc and got away with 6points and a hefty fine...i was really shocked at the punishment tbh

Not going to say unlucky mate, cause it's not I'm afraid.

That's a hell of an average speed over that distance, hence no real defence you can use.

Would not be at all surprised if you receive a ban.

I'm not defending it at all and will take whatever punishment it dished out.

I don't know what particular bike BugOne has, nor what road he was on (Having being to Wainscott there are some quite long open roads very close), but I imagine averaging 116mph wasn't that difficult for him :)

I Agree, while it does seem to be excessively fast it's not hard at all to do that sort of speed on *any* reasonably powerfull bike.

All you can do is plead guilty and if you go for a court appearance then look suitably contrite and hopefully you'll keep to a minimum the fine and ban as you are looking at both for anything over 95MPH iirc.

:(

As you're probably looking at a ban it's well worth checking out this site and trying whatever it suggests in your particular situation to get you off of it (once you've received a NIP).

Doing that speed on a sports bike is extremely easy. It's just not like your average car where you have to put a lot of effort and time into it. On a bike a quick twist and your there. That's the problem you see, presented with a nice clear straight and empty road on a nice sunny day and it's almost hard not to.

You really have to have ridden a bike to understand. Not saying it's sensible but it's far easier to find yourself in that situation than in a car.

I routinely do those speeds and more without realising it, on a private test track of course :P

Not disputing that at all, easy in most cars as well.

My point was that due to the distance it was averaged over it would negate any real defence you 'could' use. * If you were going to try & get off which I appreciate the OP is not.

An AVERAGE speed

I mean unlucky and I hope you get off lightly, but its a bit silly saying you had no idea what speed you were doing because you were not paying attention to the speedo

You need to slow down fella, if you had hit a car driver I guarantee the car driver would have been blamed which is annoying lol

To average 116 over a distance? Not really.

On an empty 4 lane motorway as the OP suggest then yes it is indeed very easy to average such high speeds on a motorway if your in something capable.

Most modern sport cars and bikes will easily sustain 150mph so as the OP suggested the conditions were ideal and speed got the better of him, its certainly not hard to do. He was recored over 4 miles and at those kinda speeds your gonna cover 4 mile distance very quickly indeed.
