...and it's fairly battered. The lock button and the home button are both non-functioning. The lock button doesn't move at all but the home button works once in every 50 clicks. So, what do?

Apple quoted my generous friend too steep a price, or, at least, one to be avoided by trying other things first.

I have turned on Assistive Touch, so the only real problem is that turning on the phone is very unreliable. I'm new to Apple, mostly, so I turn to you kind and knowledgeable sirs. Any ideas?

A few quid on Ebay and and hour of your time if you are competent with taking apart and fiddling with small electronics or finds a local repair shop/person that is and give them £25 to do it.

Home button can probably be fixed with a good drenching in electrical contact cleaner :)

Sorry to hijack thread but I have a quick question relating to the iphone 4. My wife has just picked up a white 16gb unlocked iphone 4 which is boxed and in excellent condition. How much do they sell for these days?

Thanks for the posts. I seem to have got the home button working with the application of WD40. Now I just need to figure out if my PAYG SIM will work in it! :D
