Hey guys,

I'm working for a Wetherspoons pub at the moment, I get paid weekly and just checked my bank balance, for some reason I have been paid £200 quid for 15hrs work, I was just wondering what is the procedure for this, or is it something I could be owed? Like tax back as its the end of the financial year?

Quick - do a runner and live it up on the Costa Del.

Alternatively, cross check the payment against your wage slip - this should show any tax / overtime / hours.

Just check your pay cheque when it comes through, compare the tax paid column to your last one and you should be able to work it out.

Thats the thing, I have already had a tax rebate this year and havent earned over the threshhold, I'm a student and only work around 10hrs a weekend, so my tax colum is empty, the manager at this pub doesnt normally print the pay slips out which will make it hard.

If in doubt question it with the department that pays your wages.

If they've overpaid you it's their money and you've got no right to hang on to it.
Correct :(

I was paid the equivalent my yearly salary in one week on my last contract. They asked for it back :(

I've only been over paid once, it was the week before Christmas so I accepted the error with thanks. My employers never asked for it back, but they did take away my hope.

Look don't get me wrong, I have no worries if they want this back, I was asking if they were anything due to it being the end of the financial year, if they is something about it, I've only ever worked summer and winter due to being away at uni.

Make them... its not difficult i worked for wetherspoons as a manger. Likely hood is that your manager may have given you your holiday pay because there is a time of year (now i believe) that it will be cancelled if you dont use it up!

Like everyone nowadays. gone are the days you could be paid in cash. But you are still meant to be given a payslip around the time they transfer the money over.

Yes i know that, but our managers excuse is that,

"people just leave them in the staff room so im not going to waste ink printing them"

But i keep all of mine any way.

Friend of mine got overpaid last year and is still working the hours back :(
Why didn't he just give the money back like any sensible individual would? It was tempting to go out and pay cash for a Ferrari when my employer cocked up, but I knew they'd want it back so didn't spend any of it... Don't tell me he spent it?
