Just bought a 53 plate yaris, 2004 1 litre. Nice little car to drive, very cheap on fuel. Digi dash makes me feel like I'm in a spaceship

It's just what I was looking for. Just wondering if anyone knows of any tips or tricks that I may have missed. :D

I'm aware of the storage under the passenger seat and a few other places. :p

used to have the the T-Sport , very nice bucket seats, don't think you will find many surprises. Enjoy :)

The back seats are on a rollers so you should be able to make the boot bigger. I could on my old T sport. There's a bar under the middle seat at the back in the cabin.
Other than that I can't think of anything else. Happy motoring.

Replace the front drop links and front arb bushes with poly bushes. See my post on pg2.

They'll only need doing once, otherwise if you use oem or cheap replacements, then it will need replacing every year, the stock ones are shocking.

Great improvement to the handling too.

Besides that, great cars for pootling around. Change the oil every 6000 miles.

I think people normally ask that question before they buy the car :p

As it happens they're ace little things, i've had mine for over 3 years now and it's hilariously cheap to run. The front ARB links do seem to go on some but mine are still fine, maybe the diesel has a different setup to the petrols? Get the gearbox oil changed too as i don't think the service schedule ever calls for it but it's a quick and easy job and only costs about £30 in oil.

Bob, they use the same parts for suspension. Get them swapped out.

Cheap upgrade and will transform the feeling of the car

Ooooh, I'm assuming that works to make the boot smaller and give more leg room aswell if the seats have already been adjusted

That seemed like a lot of technical jargon to me. How hard is this to do for someone with 0 car knowledge?

Wanted to hate you, couldn't help but laugh :p I'm known in work for knowing very little about cars so it kinda suits the jokes I'm used to :D

Maybe get a K&N and big bore 4.

Just enjoy it and don't overcomplicate things, it's never going to be quick or particularly comfortable on long journeys so take it for what it is.

Amazing idea, definitely got to the expense of Polybushing a 1 litre Yaris thats currently showing no signs that the bushes need doing yet.

Also fit a strut brace.

Typical forum fodder, new rubber bushes would have felt much better than old crap ones anyway.

its a 11 year old Yaris, its never going to set your pants alight..my tip is to drive it sensibly until you build up your no claims to get something faster

the number of times I see people caning runarounds when they are quite clearly not designed to do it, I saw some clown nearly roll a Matiz on the motorway as he was driving way to fast for it, when he had to stamp on the brakes it fishtailed wildly and I thought he was going off the road

so be cool and suck up the fact that oyu have to start somewhere!

How's the 'main dealer mechanic' job going by the way?

Ooooh shots fired ;)

Honestly, fast cars aren't my thing. Like I said, I like the Yaris a lot. I like reliable cars that are good on fuel :p

My sister has had a 54 reg 1.0 for around 8 years. In that time its had one oil change and plug set. The car does 3 miles a day and has done in that 8 years.

Mechanically its still spot on, with that type of driving, ie never getting warm, and the oil not being changed, i'd have expected it to have had some issues.

Good car, dull as hell and boring to drive, but reliable and dependable.

It's a known issue with the drop links on the Yaris. Ours was on 20k and 8 years old when we bought it. Drop links were shot. Everyone has the same issue with it.

It's the only thing we've 'upgraded' on it, as the stock ones are made of edam. You get horrible clanging sounds once they wear out.

It's two parts of the suspension, I didn't say do the whole thing. Pipe down :p
