Ok ok it may not be the flyest ride around but its my first car that i will soley own and i like it, not too keen on new shape hatch backs (focus etc).

media

Was a real nice drive, nice bit of poke to it too, comes with cd player and air conditioning.

Im a man of overclocking and want to take such enthusiam into the car world with me and as this is soley my car i can do as a wish. Ive picked out this (click here) to give it a little more umph.

Im looking to pick up some black 17"s for it in the future but as a lot of cars the rear breaks are nasty drums and imo drums dont look nice and shouldnt be seen. Is it possible to fit rear discs without too much hassle? because it would look a lot nicer when i came to getting some nice rims.

Any thoughts so far....

Thanks

Looks tidy, enjoy. :)

P.S - You are likely going to get a lot of people trying to take the mickey out of you or suggest that you bought a mondeo hereafter.

Yeh ive already had that event happen but i prefer the shape of the escort ten fold.

For now as far a modifications i'm only thinking induction kit and nicer rims but induction kit first to replace that huge stock air filter thats in there. I know insurance may go up but surely not that much just for a induction kit although my dad keeps warning me he he.

The induction kit will do something, and thats good enough for me :D

Thanks for your replies

Yeh she runs nice, only 48,000 on the clock and they throwing in an mot and service. I hear what ** saying about the insurance, i have a quote at under 400 pounds fully comp from tesco insurance which aint much to start with, specially for a 21 year old.

Paid 2500 for it, included in which is a 3 month parts and labour **** anything go wrong in the next 3 months, full mot and service (new filter, plugs etc) and a panasonic 4 x 45watt cd player.

Was hoping to spend less but my dad an i both agreed it was a very good example.

Seriously guys check out tesco insurance its too cheap :D

Edit: O yea those gti side skirts look sexeh, really give it a lower look, think im prob gonna get the induction kit even just for the sound, i will check with insurance tomo, prob get some rear discs and alloys in the not too far future.

£2500??!??!?!?

Paid that for my Mondy 2.5 years ago :(

Those mods will be nice but don't bother with the rear discs - I toyed with the idea on the Mondeo but IMHO it just isnt worth it.

The price paid for the actual car is nearer 2000 really and parkers guide said that was a pretty standard price, most of the others ones i looked at were around 2300-2600, that one i bought was listed at 2695.

Yeh but rear drums with alloys just dont work for me.

OOO mite debadge, some car looks can be radically changed for the better with a decent debadge.

Looks like a tidy example enjoy it.

2.5k sounds way over the odds for it though, you could probably get an early focus for that :/

Edit, just looked on AT & there are some for that amount. Can't believe it tbh

Yeh man i looked on there for ages, its standard price, parkers guide says so too. Dont forget what i said was included in the price.

For a 1.6 1999/T Finesse 5D, I wouldn't pay no more than £1600.

I hear what your saying, maybe i **** have come here first. That aside i still got myself a good car, used to have a 1.4 escort back in the day i shared with my mum and they real good fun.

Yeah, aircons a nice to have. You can pick a CD player up for sub £100 easily though ;)

I'm just comparing it to my car & the cost of it. Fair enough, mines an old man Rover 200 & only a 1.1 but I paid 1k for a 2000 W reg & I don't see that you have 2.5 times as much car there :)

Yeh man, infact i was looking at rover 45s and u get a lot more for your money. For £2300 could have got 1.8, ac, 6disc changer, alloys and spoiler :D. I really wanted an escort though, was looking at civic coupe's for a while but it just didnt happen.

I think this escort may have been expensive because it had had one previous owner and hadnt been used much. I felt right too when i drove it, got a little excited.

Still nice car ey

If im gonna get alloys then i have to have discs at the back, seeing drums really imo is not that nice.

For now im just going to drive it and learn some more about the car and hits some subtle mods in a bit.

Out of interest, what size rims are going to work the best. In an ideal world i would have 17" 5zigen's (Black powder coated) fitted but im sure that is the most expensive option.

Is there any UK based wheel manufacturer that could do suitable wheels for my escort that look a lot like this?

They look tight :D

Please dont put aftermarket alloys on a ford escort :(

He he why not?

Which alloys do u suggest because the optional ones that come on this car are terrible, the triangle ones are nasty and the 5 spoke kinda ones arent to ncie either.

I hear what ** saying about it looking like a chav machine and honestly i do not want that, i live in exmouth and we have a beach strip that is dominated by some frankly disgusting hot hatches.

I think black rims would look pretty nice, certainly not chavvy.

5 Spoke Ford Cossie alloys (Mondeo/Escort) would be about all I would do to the car. Perhaps the GTI kit too.

£2.5k is a bloody lot of money for that car though.

Yeh i was thinking that, i think the cossie wheels would look nice.

Im getting a little tired of hearing that 2.5 is too much money, i know its not anyones fault but it prolly the best example of an escort you could get, practically one of the last made. Im getting a service and mot in that price and yeh maybe it should already have that.........

Parkers price guide thingy is pretty close to what i paid and if you look on A T they mostly all around or above 2k, you can get more for your money with a rover or somming but this was the car i wanted and the colour.

Off to find some cossie alloys....

I would like to know what the "service" consists of. I would imagine a full, comprehensive service whereby the replace all filters including the pollen filter, plugs and leads to be around £150-£180. I would be suprised if they went to this extent. The plugs and leads do not need to be changed often but the pollen filter does and is often overlooked.

Also, if you're tired of peoples opinions perhaps you shouldn't ask for them?

£2500 is ST24 money, a far better looking, sped'd and performing vehicle - whilst remaining in the same sort of class and size bracket.

They are including a full service becuse it is due one, plugs leads the lot, tis what they said and is the one of the reasons i parted with so much cash. And common man i did say it wasnt anyones fault nor was i moaning at you. Im tired because all the escorts of the spec are at simular prices on auto trader and LOOK AT THIS , surely you see that the price i paid wasnt way over the mark. Seems quite close to it with the added extras im getting.

Im 21 and insuring an ST would be steep.

Thanks again for your comments

Haven't read the whole thread, just the post above this one regarding 17's!

Erm, don't fit 17's it'll look silly mate, 16's at most but tbh I wouldn't bother getting some alloys for it unless you came across some nice (and cheap) Ford alloys...like the Mondeo Si ones. :)

Yeh looking at those mondeo/gti ones, the white cosworth ones are nice.
