i'm new to all this building pc and overclocking mumbo jumbo, i usually work on macs at uni and at home i have a dell laptop but i figured i needed something to work with at home.
i bought this from No competitors! Please take the time to read the FAO
CPU: Intel® Core 2 Quad Q8200
CPU Cooler: Standard CPU heatsink & fan (just ordered an after market Akasa Nero AK-967 HSF)
Motherboard: Asus P5QL (Intel P43 chipset, 4x DDR2, PCI-E 2.0)
Memory: 4GB DDR2 800mhz (2x 2GB)
Hard Drives: 500GB S-ATAII 3.0Gb/s
Optical Drive: 20x DVD±RW DL
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 1GB
Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
Operating System: No Operating System - I will install my own
Internet: Wireless 802.11G USB dongle
Monitors: Asus 19" VW193D-B Widescreen LCD
PSU: 500W Eagle
Case: Asus TA-210
now this may not have the best specs around but it fit my budget, i'm going to be mainly using this for general browsing, watching movies etc plus video editing/animation/photoshopping.
i have heard the q8200 isn't the greatest cpu around and i was wondering if there is anything better for similar price, they still have not dispatched the computer so i have time to change a few things if i need/want to
the video card isnt great either but i will buy a better one later when i have more money
anyways i have read quiet a few guides about overclocking and i get lost in them, it might be my short attention span or the guides are too long with too many numbers, what ever it is i need to find a way around it
if there is a software that i can use to overclock without entering the bios that would be great since it looks easier and might be a better chance i dont mess anything up in the bios
if not i would really appreciate it if someone could help me find a simple guide on how to overclock the CPU i have, not looking to go over 3 ghz just want to give this 'overclocking' thing a go.
thank you in advance
P.S this might not be in the right section, if not i would appreciate it if a mod can move it
