Just bought a PS3

From what I can gather, Planet Earth Blu-ray is a mixture of 576p/1080i so it's still not the best picture it could possibly be at 1080p.

Yea I got Planet Earth Blu-ray for Christmas and found that half of it was amazing quality and the other half was just upscaled dvd really. There are some nice shots in the seasonal forests, one where it pans across this dead tree, probably one of the best hd shots ive ever seen! :eek:

We don't mention that in PS3 threads.
PS3 is a very good Blu-Ray player anyway, I know a lot of people do buy them for that reason and that's their prerogative. For me it's an excellent media player with a couple of good games. By the end of it's life-cycle it's going to be an excellent media player with a lot of great games, so you can't really lose.

I think that shot's on the BBC HD Preview on SkyHD (or it might be Luxe), if so I agree, it's stunning.

Yeh I got to admit, I’m liking this more as a media extender than the 360. I know the 360 has the MC front end but the PS seems to play more video extensions….. and it’s a hell of a lot quieter.
Menus/folders on PS seem a bit awkward, which is odd as I quite liked it on the PSP. Maybe because there weren’t as many on the PSP? Just me being anal I think

I had the same complaint about XMB, but I've gotten used to it now and really like it, they are much better with themes on too. The PS3 is a great Media Extender, I to use it rather than Xbox360.

The Mac leopard theme looks very nice on the PS3, and is probably a bit easier to read/ understand. Have you tried grouping you folders using the square button, you can also assign items to folders by changing the details on the file to the corresponding folder eg game demos, movie trailers etc.

Not had chance to play about with it proper yet. Going to have a good play with it tonight and read through some of the manuals.

Thanks for the info though. Will look into that Mac theme.
