Game keeps freezing randomly in the out doors. I will be moving along and randomly game will freeze for about 2 seconds and fps will go down from 80s to 40s the game will unfreeze and fps will return to 80s. It does it very regular in the our doors though its annoying and makes me not want to play the game.

disable vsync maybe ...unless the game engine is locked at 75
btw i dont think they have still fixed it where disabling vsync in options actually turns it off....you need to edit the config file.

Not when its dipping below 50 and getting slow downs. Anyways i managed to disable vsync im stilling getting random fps issues outdoors. I will be walking around and the screen will freeze while my fps randomly go down to 50s or 40s then unfreeze its doing my head in.

At start my fps were locked at 75 and it was freezing randomly with fps going down to 50s and 40s for about 2 seconds then fps would go back up to 75, i have since disabled vsync through the fallout 3 ini now fps go above 75 my refresh rate however the freezing still occurs only in the outdoors.

Its optimised for Nvidia on PC. ATI drivers do not work as well. I used to have a 4870 and it was always freezing & or locking up. Soon as I bought a GTX260-216 it was rock solid stable eversince and it has not locked once in over 120+ hours gameplay.

Should add before the fanboy wars kick in that I think ATI make better gfx hardware than Nvidia but their drivers are much worse for stability as Nvidia have a large driver resource team but ATI obviously do not.

It sounds suspiciously like it's pausing to load textures. I saw this in Oblivion, a good defrag sorted it.

Of course, it might not be that.

You've had a lot of hassles with your 4870X2 iirc dmxdex2020.:(

I played Fallout 3 with a 512 mb 4870 and for me, it just didn't cut it. Since moving up to
more memory I haven't had any noticeable problems. Will report back later with fps.

I play with a 2900xt, and don't get any problem. Unless my standards are lower than yours, I am willing to play at 30fps in all games.

The number of fps, sometimes, doesn't tell the full story like with Cryostasis I was getting say 15 - 50 fps, the fps were all over the place. I found it quite playable and I do like smooth running games.

From what i have read mate its same old gamebryo engine its a crap engine with so many issues. All my other games run fine. I had a lot issues with my 4870 x2. Since upgrading to a core i7 most games run like the brilliant. Just oblivion and fallout have freezes and hitches all randomly.

Glad to hear that your other games run good:)

Well, I have just run the game where my character is outside and I have set every graphical setting in CCC and in game to the max, this includes 8 AA and playing at 1920x1200. My consistent fps was 40. It did dip a little and occasionally it did reach around 60 but overall it was pretty smooth and considering the engine and lack of support I am pretty content with the results.:)

Do you not get random stuttering in game in the outdoors? like fps will be at 80s and will just roll down to 40s while its froze for 2 seconds its very annoying and happens a lot. been on google and freezes and crashes seem common for this game.
