I have just opened my brand new Corsair K70 Cherry MX Brown Switch mechanical keyboard. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-020-CS&groupid=702&catid=2705&subcat=2709

To be honest I'm a little underwhelmed. Maybe because I was expecting a lot more from a keyboard. After all, it's just a keyboard. It does feel nice and solid and typing on it is crisp although much noisier than my old Logitech K200.

I have twin 27" monitors with glossy screens and the backlights shine off the screen - something to be aware of if you're thinking of buying one and have glossy monitor screens. So I've had to turn the backlighting off which is a shame because it looks so cool. :D

Anyway just thought I'd share my experience of my first hour using it. I typed this post on it and it only took me 3 secs to type, so can't be that bad.

Looks great but I kind of agree with you about mechanical keyboards and the noise factor - it's a huge negative against them depsite how much better they are in other respects.

I'll pay top dollar for mice but only ever get basic keyboards as a loud, clicky mechanical isn't desireable to me. No questioning their superiority in everything else though.

I've a K70 with Reds inside it and love the thing, was rather expensive but IMO well worth the cash. As for the noise, I'm wondering if its the click of the Browns that you are hearing or if it's because you are bottoming out the keys with every stroke.

When I first got my K70 I was typing away and bottoming out with every key stroke, but a few months down the line it is a lot quieter as I touch type only pressing the key as far as the switch needs and only bottoming out when I'm playing a game. If its that you are just bottoming out then you will get used to typing on the thing and the noise will go (to an extent). If its not that and its the click of the switch, then maybe you might have been better with a quieter switch (such as the reds).

Also, do post back and tell us how those O-rings worked. My GF hates my keyboard when I'm playing a game and it would be great if they do silence it a little when I am Fragging!

I got a Logitech G710+ last month and coming from G15/17 i don't know if i like it. i am continually miss clicking the wrong keys on it, maybe its got something to do with the spacing on the keys on the mechanicals but its going to take some getting used to.

Yeah you are right the actual switch on the browns is barely audible. I am pounding the keys and every key touch is bottomed out. I hadn't really thought of typing softly. :D I'll give the typing softly approach a good try because it's likely better for my hands/fingers anyway. This keyboard does feel really good under the fingers, just needs a few tweaks and I'll be happy. I should get the o-rings this week and I'll post back in a few days and let you know how that goes. I might even do a before and after video, if I can be bothered.
