Just built a new system - few teething problems :D

i just tried alternating between the 4 to 6 pin adapator and using the actual 4 pins + the split off 2 pins, neither made a diffrence.

adjusting the sata cables wouldnt stop me getting a picture on the monitor would it? there couldnt be a power issue?
 
FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!! (partly)

i randomly wondered if the psu wasnt enough, so i unplugged the sata cable going to the dvd drive, and the mobo loading screen popped on, i was like :O

so what do i do now lol
 
That's bizarre. The Corsair 650w should be enough to power most systems; certainly what you've got I expect.

If you're at the POST screen, go into the bios and do a basic setup - I usually remove the floppy disk drive option, set the boot order, set the RAM timings and voltage, and disable onboard sound if my soundcard is installed. Then get installing Windows :)
 
have you tried moving the ram about, i got that when i built my I7 machine with the same CPU and Mobo as you, just moved the RAM to the Orange/red slots i think and it worked.
 
if it isnt the 650, would it matter which sata ports i plugged my hdd and optical in to? i mean the moment i removed the optical drive cable (from the drive itself) the monitor popped on.

oh 1 more quick question, if the orange ports, are the marvell, am i ok to use the 2 satas nearer the center? or should i stick with the red 2 blocks of 2 at the side?

oh and 1 more :D do the 3 ram sticks need to be in the same coloured slot? i mean 3 orange or 3 black etc? or does it not matter

the ram needs to be in the same colour slots yes :) shouldnt matter which of the 6 red slots you use, ihad problems with dodgy sata cables that caused me issues on boot.
 
its weird though, i wouldnt have thought sata problems would prevent the monitor from getting a signal? thats why i wondered if it was power related. and thank you very much for all your input vader :)
 
buy a new power supply mate happend to my mate once his pc wouldnt start so i lent him my 880W psu and it was all good:D this was because he installed a new sound card
