I went to OcUK yesterday and purchased the following.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit

Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

It took me all day to get windows xp, drivers, apps and a couple of games installed. I've had BSOD and windows needs to close this that and the other :(

I can play CSS for about 10mins and FEAR Combat for about 30mins before being kicked to desktop. I've not overclocked and i'm running everything at default. I can complete several runs of 3dmark 2006 without probs but i'm pulling my hair out, just want a stable system

I had a P5W, E6600 and 8800GTS before and never had these problems

Any suggestions?

The cpu temp. under load is about 42, not done any ram timings yet as everything is on auto and i'm using a Enermax 485w Noisetaker which worked fine on my last conroe / 8800GTS build.

can anyone with the same sytem advise me on optimum bios settins please

cheers guys

what is your psu brand and Watt output?

i used to have problems like this on my old old old rig but i found it was the psu (q-tec) and replaced it.

Your Enermax should be fine. I'd say try:

-running memtest
-make sure you have the latest drivers for everything
-ensure windows is fully updated
-Make sure you have the latest BIOS version for your DS3.

Probably the Gigabyte causing problems ;) It probably doesn't like your Ballistix. Sounds like exactly the same issue with my DS3P + OCZ PC6400. Needless to say sent the board back and got something decent (Abit QuadGT).

The DS3P is a superb board.

Seconded !!!

Plus I have the exact same setup (except its 6400 RAM) and I love it, solid as a rock.

I'm with triggerthat on this though, the Ballistix needs to be set to +0.4v i'd start there.

OP, what revision is your motherboard?

I too have the DS3P and the Crucial Ballistix and was also having problems. I've RMA'd the motherboard as I think its that. I've recieved the REV2.0 board (rather than the 3.3) so it might be a bad batch.

Hi guy's, Sorry it's taken me so long to get back

Right I think i've got it sorted after Triggers advice (cheers), I followed the DS3 thread and setup my bios propperly took the ram to 2.2v and timmings 4-4-4-12. I also upped the vcore to 1.45v and changed the Bus speed to 333MHz giving me a nice 3GHz overclock on the CPU.

I also clocked the 8800GTS to 600/900 giving me 600/1800 i think! using ntune.

Since these setting i've ran 3Dmark06 and scored 10216 click
I've also played CSS for a couple of hours and my rigs been on all night while i've been installing and doing bits to it and so far i've not had a single Crash, BSOD or been kicked to desktop :)

My board is the Rev 3.3 and i updated the bios to F5 btw, I'm gonna test it heavily tomorrow and see what i can get out of it as i just plucked those overclocks out of the air really :)

Sweet... good to here its working out ok for ya. 1.45v on the vcore might be over kill for a 3ghz overclock. Mines stable at 1.3875, i'd try knocking the voltage down a little !
