I have a number of options to consider at the moment. As my 9800 GX2 card just died I don't know what to upgrade to.
I have Q6600, 4GB of Ram, and a corsair 650W PSU. And I use 19" screen so play at 1280x960 - what would be best for price and performance butmaybe lasting more than 2 years this time!

I am considering the following:

1 x 5770 (crossfire in future)
1 x 4870 X2 (2ndhand)
1 x 4870
2 x 4850 in XF
2 x 5670 in XF

I mainly play BFBC2, Railworks, or COD4MW/2
Would say maximum budget of £160

I would go with the 5770.

The 4870x2 is a nice card but mine run hot and noisy and used a lot of power.

at this 1280x960 resolution any of them cards perform about the same waste of money if you go for something like a 4870 x2, get a new monitor.

Ok thank you all I was unsure as to which to go for originally, as the 5770 advantages will provide future support forDX11 and will Xf them in the future. Which one to have now is the question hehe Saphire or XFI XXX edition.

5770 is a good choice, why not the Asus card though? Longer warranty and voltage adjustment.

This good sound good although readingsome of the customer reviews some people were saying the fan is loud and does not help with temps much as one person said it reached 105 under load :O I would like one that would help keep the temps down the best for now maybe. Not sure? which did you prefer qhen you bought one as I notice you bought the vapor-x model

Anyones 5770 that hits over 100deg has a serious problem, the cards run nice and cool even crossfired, don't be put off by noise levels, unless your running a case with 0 airflow fans it will be fine in games. Anything faster at your resolution will be wasted. An asus v2 or direct cu are almost inaudible. The same can't be said for the 4870's or x2's

Ok guys thanks again for the help I think the XFX XXX edition takes my fancy this shouldbe very satisfactory if I can play games like Railworks and Bad company 2 or mw onmax details :p

I nearly finally decided on a 5830 still with all this choice still not fully settled :S

I'd get the Asus 5770 for the extra warranty over your choice. Not only that, but it has voltage tweak tech. out of the box.

get 2x 4870 for £120 £60 each second hand and would be more powerfull than a 4870x2 and pocket £40 ?

Actually 4870x2 is more powerful due to the faster memory then two normal 4870s but really you need a after market cooler for a x2 they seem to run rather hot to be honest 12 months is all the stock cooler will last.

I did see one on ebay with some artic cooler an x2 - but again its 2nd hand so can not gurantee quality of the card!. The extra year of warranty does seem good and plausable I think I shall get this the Asus one then, my only niggle was that these cards do run a little hot apprently reading the reviews. Still, I think it will be ok on mine, I have a fan at the rear, a 200mm fan on the top and two in the front

4870x2 is a hot card, I have one with an artic cooler and although GPU temps never go over 60C the heat it pumps out in to the case still is noticable. Having said that, I think it's a great card for the price/ performance.
I would go 5770 at that res, if you were going to be buying a higher res monitor in the furture then a 5830 might be better.

Well having a look at that 27" LG monitor on here does look tasty indeed!!

And out of interest, how does a GTX260 compare, the Zotac one that is!, considering that Nvidia cards have PhysX - how much of a difference compared to a 5770 would that make?

Sorry for being an extended pain with all the questions hehe

I don't think I would go with a 260 unless cuda/PhysX is important to you. Looking at the games you mentioned above, I would say not as none of them are PhysX titles! :)
If you really are looking at a higher res monitor then I would go with 5830/5850/470 and forget about 5770 which will not be up to the task.
