Just can not update to windows 8.1

So I bought 8 pro yesterday from VLSC and installed fine etc etc.

I have done all the updates and the special KB update I needed to do make sure it appears in the app store. It's still not there. Any ideas?

So confused why it doesn't appear. Oh I have tried the 8.1 with key but it won't accept my 8pro key.

if you mean you have an 8.1 ISO, you have to use some generic key that is floating around on the net. you can then change this to your proper 8pro key after setup is complete and then activate properly.

Please note that Windows 8.1 Enterprise cannot be updated from the Windows Store; it can only updated using media obtained from the VLSC.

Its a pro version though? I can see 8.1 although it will count as an activation on a key i haven't purchased?

As far as I'm aware if you're a VL customer 8.0 and 8.1 are separate products, and you need SA to go from 8.0 to 8.1

So ive just bought 8.0 but I have to pay for 8.1 even though its free?

I'm surprised you managed to buy a single license through VLSC without Software Assurance to be honest.

Im new to this whole licensing thing mate so sorry if im being naïve.

Im downloading 8.1 now from VLSC although won't it want me the 8.1 license key? if I put that in I will have an activation of 8.0 and 8.1?

VLSC shouldn't let you download anything that isn't in your entitlement. If you're able to download 8.1 media and get an installation key for it (I'm assuming you're using a MAK key as opposed to KMS) then you're entitled to that product, probably through an SA agreement.

Argh, yeah I can download it mate. Well its the one im downloading now.

So I use the 8.1 key to activate the installer?

All in all though the update is still free just a diff installer? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question. :cool:

It's free in the same way that all updates to Volume License customers are free if you're covered by Software Assurance.

It's not possible for you to trigger an invoice by downloading something off VLSC, so I wouldn't worry about it costing you anything.

Ive got it now mate.

Yeah its all new to me. First year in IT role and have never really used VL before in my life. IM still 50% in the know of how it all works etc.
