Just cannot install back IO plate

Hi.

I got myself a Gigabyte Z77 board and the board itself is very nice however, I have a problem.

I tried to install the back IO shield before putting in the motherboard but when I "thought" I installed the shield I tried to install the motherboard but they did not match with the stand off's.

So I took the shield out and carried on building, which I now think was rather foolish. I tired to put it in after the motherboard but it was very difficult and seemingly impossible.

Because its currently half hanging off I opened up my computer and started to take all of the stand offs to make another attempt. Had no luck! No matter how hard I try I just can't do it.

As I type this the back IO shield is half hanging off and is generally not very appealing to look at :(

Is there any techiuqe to put it on? I looked at the manual and online but found noting. Also, is there a way to install it after I installed the motherboard? Putting in the stand off's is a rather... long process.

Thanks :)

The io sheild needs a fair pushing to get in sometimes,as for the motherboard unscrew the screws that hold the board to the case a little then move the board till the io sheild matches up then tightin up the screws and you should be good to go.

I've tried this :(

I have been using it with all my strength (which is not much :O) but I have no luck:( It clicks to some extent but when I try to install my motherboard no matter how hard I shove it across it just wont line up with the standoffs.

Sigh, got me so angry after half a hour of yet another try so the IO shield is back to half hanging off, again :(

very strange, usually i put the shield first to the chassis, then install the mobo into it.
maybe you need you de-install the mobo, put the shield and install the mobo again?

Ok then what you need to do is get a small file or wet and dry on the case io part and file it down a tad, make sure you keep it clean when the board goes back in.

Put the IO shield in place, click in a corner. Take a screwdriver with a big handle. Turn screw driver over, use handle to batter the corners into place.

Exactly what I was going to say! Sometimes I also use the point of a screwdriver to push with - but only in the very corner to avoid bending the IO plate.

Thanks been battering it for quite some time now and I managed to get it somewhat in. Don't look perfect but It's not like its on the front of the case ;)

Cheers.

How can it be half hanging off? it will either be in or out, you know it has to go in from inside the case right with mother board removed?

I usually find that some of those little metal tabs on the IO shield, need bending and moving as they interfere with the board/port alignment.

Indeed, those are the worst, always end up with one of them stuck in the network port

I don't know why all I/O Shields aren't made out of that spongy stuff ASUS use on some of their boards.

Out of all the computers I have built over the past few years (about 5 or 6) I have never managed to get those back plates on. I am Just useless at them, dont have the patients and hurt my thumbs :( so I give up. Building a new computer this weekend will put extra effort in to put this in place.

No idea why I find it so difficult though.

This. Lol, i'm glad i'm not the only person that uses this method :p
