simple is it a AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz or
Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) there both about the same price and the PC will be used for gaming but which one is going to the better OC and longer lasting I have a buget of £330 for MB,Proc, memory.
The graphic cards comes latter at the moe its a 5770 but the upgrade from what is there must be done with in 3 weeks (its a business thing)

Thanks
its not my system,,, Im OK for a bit longer

From what I have read they should both hit 4ghz.

What will it be used for? I was stuck between an i5 750, X4 965BE, X6 1055T or an i7 930.

From what I looked into both the i5 & i7 would be quicker on average, but I went for the x6 1055T just incase the new bulldozer chip AM3.

Going with the 955 will save you some cash (£20 or so), and the motherboards are cheaper for AMD as well (get more features for less money than Intel).

However, the i5 750 is the better chip. It really depends on what you need from the motherboard - feature wise (since with a £330 budget, you're looking at ~£110 for the motherboard).

The i5 750 will reach 4GHz a lot easier than the Phenom chip will. If you were to go for a Phenom chip I'd go for a 1055T six core. They overclock like stink and have six cores over the usual four. Although the price is naturally higher.

The PC will be used mostly for gaming and some video converting

This is what I was thinking about..
Processor: Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) £157
motherboard:Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard £88
Memory:OCZ Gold Low Voltage 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3G1600LV4GK) [OCZ3G1600LV4GK] £95 with a total of £340...
or there is the AMD
MB..Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H AMD 785G (Socket AM3) £75
Proc..AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz £136 or the
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz £149
Mem..OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Dual Channel £90
if I go with the 955 total price £301

What do you think?

It's a big case and a microATX will vanish in there

well, supposedly, the 965 and 750 at stock have similar performance... and if they both OC to around 4ghz, but the i5 starts at slower clocks, that would make it superior, right?

I'd probably go for the i5. Though, an i7 with HT might be worth the extra money if you plan on doing a lot of video encoding.

Also worth considering is that from what I have heard Bulldozer is expected to be backwardly compatible with AM3 whilst Sandy Bridge will definitely not be compatible with socket 1156.
