Hi, I hope I have posted in the correct section and trust that my question is acceptable to this forum.
I have a 13 year old Acer Travel Mate which is getting rather tired so a new laptop is called for.
I cant be alone in not knowing which to choose. I want light office/a great deal of surfing /general everyday tasks.
I rather like Acer Aspire 3 AMD A313-44P-R4W4 and the Asus notebook 15 1502 ZA-EJ1131 but for the life of me just cant decide which is the better of the two. I have DuckDuckGo reviews and both seem about the same. I am not bothered about audio so a good picture and speed are my main criteria. The laptop will always be used on my desk with an additional small angle lamp.I prefer black keys.
I aim to spend up to £550.. Will a kind person please put me out of my misery and tell me which one to purchase, or even advise upon another make/model. TIA.

I'd recommend at least 8GB of RAM. Ensure RAM and NVME are user replaceable/upgradable and not soldered in

I would recommend backlit keyboard, just makes typing easier
16:10 screen is better than 16:9 for general office work.

IPS or VA panel is fine, make sure it's the higher % one not the cheaper 45%.
Avoid TN.

My Dell 5625 was £550. It's good although a couple of the keycaps are worn through, so big splodge of light O shaped inside of the letter Y for example.

Hi Hornetstinger, thanks very much for the info which I dont understand but can apply to both laptops. Applying your criteria both score about 50%, perhaps I need to return to the drawing board. jack

I was trying to help a friend with laptops (near black friday) and they went with a variant (12th gen) that had a 17.3" screen (I think it was A317-54) and this particular model in tear down videos on YouTube and in the Kingston/Crucial configurators had fully replaceable memory, whereas the smaller laptops I looked at seemed harder to access and more likely to be soldered.

I can't guarantee it is the same situation now, but worth looking into.

Edit: they love the larger screen too.

Hi, Well I went for the Acer aspire 3 A315-59-595G and purchased from amazon Spain to use there. The particulars state Spanish QWERTY. I had assumed that every conceivable language is contained in laptops and just a matter of choosing your own. How wrong I appear to be as I cant find any reference to English. Have you guys ever come across this where certain languages are excluded from the operating system. As it stands I must return to Amazon spain. I am likely to be stuck here in spain for some time but cant order from amazon uk to be posted to spain cos spanish import duty is horrendous at about €80.00.
I hope this isnt a really stupid question but the laptop is loaded with windows 11, so can I delete this operating system and download for free the english Windows 11 version. Many thanks. jack

I think you have to install the language packs through Windows?
