I bought a tv card which diddnt work, i thought it was something up with my pc.

I just come home with a freeview box, i know we can get freeview because my brothers got all channels.

I set mine up and just like the one on my pc, NO CHANNELS FOUND.

Just want to know, WHY? Can it be related to my sky dish being right under my window? Surely id get channels? Im in same house as my brother, he gets them all.

no no...i shoved the pc card under my bed. I got too annoyed and bought a proper freeviewbox from ASDA.

And even this says no channels found, what the hell? I even used the same antenna my brother uses in his room and he gets every channels, with supurb quality (like sky).

The only thing i can think of it my sky dish is actually on the wall under my window, could this be stopping me picking up freeview?

It's incredibly difficult if you are using a small room aerial. There is only one spot in my entire room (right next to the window) where I can get a signal. If it's not even at the correct height, it doesn't work. So it could be that your brother's room is in a good spot and your room isn't! Better off with a roof aerial if you want a guaranteed picture.

Ah, ok.

The sky dish shouldn't make any difference. Does it wsork if you take your box to your brothers room and use his antenna? You could have bought a knackered box.

Ahhhh, only few places it can actually go, ill try ontop of the tv now, wire doesnt reach far.

Would some kind of signal booster help?

I dont think its the box because my winfast tv tuner card diddnt pick nothing up either.

Would you think id benefit froma signal booster? What kind of arial could i buy to get better reception?

I only have a cheap £1 one and i picked up 47 channels, some are poor tho :(

I've been reading review for freeview tv cards, and most cards need a very strong signal to work properly. Ive just got a freeveiw card, and it has trouble picking quite a few channels up. but my freeview box has no problems picking all the channels up with the same aerial.

I guess the reason, is that tv cards needs a much stronger signal to work then freeview boxes, cos the hardware in your pc interferes with the signal.

when i bought my freeview from asda it took a couple of times to tune to get all the channels. Also we bought a signal booster a while ago and it did not make the signal stronger to recieve better reception/channels it just let us send the same quality signal around the house.

i just got a cheap little antena and booster box and get maximum signal on all channel where as without the boster hardly any of the channels get a signal, so i would say get a booster.

Are you allowed to tell me where you got yours from? (booster)

Boosters can only do so much, but worth a try if the signal is borderline (which it sounds like it is).

I have moved the box and aerial, now it tells me my signal is "very good", the strength bar is well over half, i can now get interactive options which diddnt work before.

Best of all its picked up 76 channels in total now. Including Sky News, Sky Sports News, The Hits and TMF which i wanted hehe and E4 / E4+1 for big brother.

Funny lil thing, i only have a cheap £1 areal from ASDA :)

Mate, ive got a outdoor aeriel on top of the roof and i cant get a signal. Its jsut the area your in.

www.freeview.co.uk.. pop in your postcode and it says quite simply wheter u can have it or not. for me it said no, still does... bought a tv with digital intergrated anyway.. found about 7 channels..

replaced my aerial further down the line and got a new aerial.. and now i get loads!

From experience.. i find cheaper brand boxes tend to pick up less channels that the more expensiver ones! Proof is the cheapo tesco box i picked up finds half the channels that my Sony IDTV can!
