here at work the server our printers run off are in a word...pants

it runs off a 850mhz celeron 256mb ram 1U dell box, ive just finished building another box to move all that onto so i want to make this celly box faster, ive got a 933mhz P3 sat here but one thing i need to make sure of is wether it would work

are server processors in this type of box any different to a regular one? or will this P3 work fine?

933mhz/256k cache/133mhz bus/1.7v < p3 info

Not trying to question your decision here but are you sure the CPU is the problem and not the RAM?

are server processors in this type of box any different to a regular one
Prolly not, have you tried the good ol' CPU-Z for the package information and mobo model?

Celeron and server processor in the same sentence :D :D

Can't remember back to the different versions of those ranges, but so long as they're the same socket type, use the same FSB and the voltages can be supported you should be ok probably.

If not - try another 512Mb RAM, I'd bet that'll make much more difference than a faster processor :)

oh dont worry im definately give it more ram lol, just that the processor was the only thing that i was unsure of because i just found this p3 in a cardboard box :p no pins bent so be nice if it works

Why is performance pants?, what OS is running on Dell server?

How many printers are running of the Dell box?

its running windows server 2003 enterprise ed and theres about 30 printers running off it, this box wont be a print server when i swap them over though this is going to have a different job, hence doing more than just adding a bit more ram :)
