As title. I thought I'd reinstal this game and play a bit of it every now and then as I used to enjoy it a few years back. Anyway, I completed it in three days:D. I got so immersed in it, I just carried on playing. It astounds me that a 10year old game can still cut it nowadays. Proves its all about gameplay with everything else second .:)

Yep homeworld and cata and hw2 are fab games.

The mods are cool too like st and st vs sw and sw only and the b5 one too.

To above, its a RTS space game with full 3d movement.

Don't think I ever completed Homeworld, definitely completed Cataclysm though. Fond memories of playing that many, many years ago when I should probably have been studying for college exams! Great main menu music too.

I've played it on XP and currently on Vista, no probs whatsover other than the very occasional freeze, then it unfreezes after a few seconds, doesn't happen that often and with the game being quite slow, it doesn't effect gameplay.
Wrt to playing it, make full use of the "salvage corvettes", otherwise you won't have enough ships to complete the game later on. Fancy having nearly 150 ion cannon frigates at your disposal?:)
From what I've read, cataclysm is easier to play than the original but less rewarding I reckon. I've played the original so many times now I've forgotten how many but it still entertains even after 10 years.

Cataclysm is still one of my favourite games. I have fond memories of that on the LAN for hours and hours.

The whole series still looks and plays amazingly. I wasn't so much a fan of Homeworld 2 multiplayer though as the fighting and radar seemed a bit easier to always know where the other player is. Cataclysm was good for actually managing to utilize the 3D space when fighting better and even avoid detection and launch surprise strikes. Love the whole series though.

Am I right in saying that Relic or Sierra bought back or renewed the rights to the series again recently? Hopefully a Homeworld 3 at some point then? *fingers crossed* :D

Great game - graphics are a bit dated, but the gameplay is fantastic.

I really, really want to play homeworld 2 again. Unfortunately, HW2 runs extremely poorly on all modern systems :( The last card I had that ran it nicely was the 9800pro (or maybe the 6800GT, I can't remember for sure). Performance has dropped signficantly with every new card I've had since, which is odd.

Unfortunately we won't be seeing any updates for the homeworld series in any forseeable timeframe either :(

I remember when I first played it, on about the 2nd or third mission when you have access to salvage corvettes, you are attacked by some raiders using small missile corvettes which you can never make youself of ever capture again in subsequent missions. I spent ages on that mission chasing them all till they ran out of fuel and doing the old ram trick to get the salvage corvette within salvage distance to defeat their tendancy to scuttle away from you with manouevring thrusters. I kept those little missile vettes for the entire rest of the game and became very attatched to them, they packed quite a punch for a fair few missions too. God, will have to add this to my list of games to replay now.

I re-installed HW2 a while back, never got it to work properly on my Vista setup, couldn't get it any higher than 2-3fps.

Shame, it was an awesome game.

HW 2 works fine on my Quad 6600, GTS8800, XP system... just wish I could complete it... I'm going to try yet again soon I think :)

I got into this about 5 years ago, read the extensive back story, was prepared for a very deep gaming experience. 1st few missions were good, but I was getting slowly over-whelmed. I generally shy away from RTSs, reckon I should give this another go? Also is this available on steam?

HW is def one of the best games I have ever pld. The single player campaign is excellent, and the multiplayer games have almost unlimited replayability due to its 3D map space.

I had HW2 working on Vista64 fine, not having my res supported was a bit annoying though

You can change the resolution in the shortcut target line.

C:\\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Homeworld2.exe -w 1680 -h 1050

or whatever :)

Anyone notice in Sins there are some sounds that sound awfully like the ones in Homeworld, click on the TEC starbase and that sound reminds me of either an ion cannon or a hyperspace window opening :D

As per my other thread I picked up Homeworld 2 the other day new for 48pence :D bargain.

The only one I ever finished was Cataclysm. The seige cannon was the best weapon I've ever seen in any game, ever.

Homeworld 1 I seem to remember getting overwhelmed in a mission called The Cathedral, and HW2 I threw away in disgust after repeatedly failing the 3rd mission. I believe they've patched it to make it easier since, might dig it out and give it a try.

LoL yea the third mission was bugged to hell and back. The patch did make it a lot easier to complete.
