Just completed my new build - wow its a beast!
Windows installed in about 10minutes, mad!

Anyway, just updating drivers etc now, anything i need to remmeber to download and patch, its a 4300, 2gb of geil, 8800GTS.

Geils running @ wrong timings, I upped the voltage though, got to update bios too before i fiddle with it, i tried an overclock and it died. The clear cmos jumper is blocked by my GTS, is there anyway to clear cmos without the jumper or taking battery out? I remmeber being able 2 hold insert or something on the nforce motherboards..

Pain isn't it, few weeks ago I was altering settings on my GeIL via BIOS and I had to clear CMOS - case was at the back of my desk with wires all over place. In the end I struggled and took off just the side by getting at it crouching on the floor I cleared CMOS that way my kneeling under my desk. Bit of a pain. Like melbourne says thats the only way unless you mod! :)

seems to work sometimes when i hold delete on startup.. ?
Not sure if its just randomly picking and choosing or if it works.
I was concidering building a switch as soon as i realised it was under the GT, I just ripped apart an old computer that had neons from a college course projcet id forgotten about, was thinking of just wiring up the switch off that onto the jumper - childsplay.

I know on my gigabyte board the book suggests removing the battery and shorting the two contacts in there for a few seconds to reset the bios, just a suggestion.

you missed the point. Yea thats what we're meant to do, but some of us have large graphics cards which completely block the jumper and part of the battery, and its a fiddle having to open up case and take graphics card out everytime i cant get a boot. My shuttle had a switch on the back to reset the cmos... bugger why didnt i canabalize it!

Looks good not much difference to the rig I am planning, what motherboard you got ?

yea ds3 :)
Its all good mate! Wondering whether I should have got that SLI asus everyone recommends though, and a 6300, so i could unlock ram and then overclock CPU seperate, i was hoping id get a lot higher overclock from this 4300 than i have! although i guess i could pump more volts into it.. ill play wiht it later. Definatly recommend the build though, although choice between ds3 and the asus, aswell as 6300 and 4300 is personal preference really.

Assu P5N 650 SLi - similar price point to the DS3, but it uses the nforce chipset. You can run the RAM slower than the FSB, which gives you more OC headroom. More useful with a e6300, which only has a 7x multiplier, than a e4300, which has a 9x multiplier. DS3 is still good, but if you want to hit 3GHz you'll need RAM that will go up to 450-500MHz (900-1000 DDR).

Ok so the is now four boards that I have in mind for a E4300, asus P5b, DS3 or DS4 & this asus one, which would be the best ?

I'd say P5N, P5B, DS4, DS3, but there really isn't a lot in it. They all overclock well, all have good onboard sound, sata controllers, plenty of USB ports, all have their little quirks but for sub £100 you can't really complain.

I should have made clear, my overclocking example with the DS3/4, that was for a e6300. An e4300 would only need around 340 FSB to hit 3GHz.
