WOw you used a 19" at 1024x768 ??? That's a scarey thought! I run my 19" (CRT) at 1600x1200 and refuse to get an lcd because all the ones i can afford would force me to drop resolution.

More natural shape (human eyes see in 'widescreen'), better for games, better for video and just generally nicer imo.

I have to disagree. While games now are providing WS support, any older ones don't and probably never will.

Sure there are work arounds, but i've found many (probably around 50-75% of my games collection) just don't work in widescreen.

My 19" WS is fantastic for desktop, movies, and WoW. Apart from that, it's a royal pain in the ass. :(

I guess it depends how much time you spend playing old games then. Plus if you have either a nvidia card, or a screen with aspect ratio controls, you can still play your 4:3 game and have it not stretched (although the picture will be much smaller than on a 4:3 display). Also it's possible to check for widescreen support in the games you play before you decide whether to buy widescreen or not-

None of this matters though, since the OP has already bought a 4:3 screen, and a very nice one too :)

See the first part, they're better suited to your line of sight as well as displaying more to either side in games that support WS resolutions.

Tute, if you have 1:1 pixel mapping it should be ok (it'll centre the image) which would be smaller on a similar sized 4:3 screen... but you can buy a 22" WS for less than the Dell 20" 4:3. There are also ways to make most games work fine in WS resolutions for example:

Ah well, whatever the OP prefers. I'm sure it's a great monitor; most Dells are.

It's easy enough to get it to just play the old games with 1:1 pixel mapping, however the 19" WS is 1440x900, which if I want to play 1:1, means I have to go with a 1024x768 resolution. This is actually a downgrade from my 4:3 17" TFT which did 1280x1024! :(

And also, I used many of the guides on there for my old games. Doom 3, for example, wouldn't apply the settings correctly. UT2004 just doesn't budge at all, I edit the ini file and run it, and it's put it all back to default settings.

Same to you Raikiri, just the trouble with WS monitors is that if the WS fix doesn't work, you often have to downgrade to a quite low resolution because of the reduced pixel height compared to a 4:3 screen.

For what I said above (desktop use, movies, and full WS games) I would recommend a WS TFT without hesitation. But, after using mine for a couple of months, i'd recommend if you're a heavy gamer to just take the 2007FP. :)

Some monitors are different to others,

My old Philips 109B xsd monitor at 1024x768 was the same as 1280x1024 on my mates monitor(NEC)
