Had my first telephone interview and I think i was rubbish :(

Problem is I am really interested in the job so I did loads of research on how to perform a good telephone interview but as soon as i picked up the phone it's like all the stuff I had leart escaped from my head! Also the girl at the end of the line sighed before she put the phone down, don't thing that is a good sign somehow :(

i suck, i'm off to cry now

Its all down to experience. You just have to get used to doing them. The vast majority of people are usless at things when they first do them. :). Dont worry!

maybe you turned her on and she had an orgasm, hence she had to put the phone down?

haha i wish! For a couple of questions i think she liked my answers caus she sounded happier but for the most part I think interviewing me was like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. One of the major things I was supposed to do but didnt was smile while I was talking! If im this bad for a telephone interview imagine me at a face to face one!

Dude you fail at life there is no hope, its time for you to sign on down the Job Centre which you will come to regard as your second home ;):D:D

telephone interviews have a habit of sounding a lot worse than how they actually are.
the job im in at the moment i thought the telephone interview went really badly, especially as the opening question was 'so what do you know about centrica?' and my answer being 'centrica? i thought i was put forward for capita!' :D

I thought my first telephone interview was pretty bad, first there was the callback when I was walking to town. He asked me if I had a couple of minutes but I didn't realise he was going to start asking me interview style questions. Then I got through to an actual telephone interview in which a lot of my answers were 'I don't know' but they still asked me back for another interview more than once, even after I told them I'd already accepted another job! (that was for detica. All of these companies that do telephone interviews seem to end in a vowel sound... Actually the company I work for now ends in an a and they didn't give me a telephone interview... hmm)

do they know that? Doesnt sound like it. If you really want the job go down in person ask for an impromptu interview..

They don't work that way. I have to go through the same process as everyone else. If they like me I get to go to London for a day to take part in an evaluation day where i get a face to face interview and some group work activities

Cant be any worse my telephone interview, I was applying to work for the samaritans & I found out a week later the interviewer committed suicide.

can you phone them back? Shows initiative :D i mean shouldnt you be trying to do something that none of the other candidates will do? That will make you stand apart from them? (maybe not in a good way but hey if you dont put your balls out there they wont get grabbed by some sexeh lady)

what you got to lose? atm - you think youve lost/failed it anyway...

Thats right youve FAILED soooo......

the worst that can happen now is you'll just fail spectacularly if you try something out of the ordinary... most likely they will reconsider and put you forward for London because they are impressed by your "go-get em tiger" attitude :)

Hahahaaha happens to a lot of us, if not all!

I remember my first phone interview I lied about things and have no idea why. For example she asked my experience I said none, what is a typical day the office I said work, went way way downhill from there.

Don't worry about it too much. Thinking happy thoughts and breathing steady really helps and the interview, face to face or phone makes your responses feel natural.

Live and learn, life is one big lesson :D
