Just downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall yesterday...

...and on the status screen it says that 17 intrusions have been blocked since install (yesterday) and 9 of those have been high rated. Is this normal?

Also, I noticed that there is a cross in the Generic Host Process (isn't that svchost.exe?). Are my settings for all my programs correct?

All sounds normal to me. I'm had 273 access attempts, 59 high-rated, since a fresh install less than a week ago. Almost all will actually be innocent and harmless, of course.

Will they be harmless things like my ISP pinging my pc or will it be like hackers trying to get into my pc :/?

I use Sygate personal firewall and since having it for about 2 months ive only had 10 in the attack bit. Surely there must be more?
Oh and can someone tell me which is better? Sygate PF or ZA? Ive had ZA before and it caused problems and interfered with norton anti-virus. Might have changed now though.

Sounds pretty normal. One thing to bare in mind with Zone Alarm is that for some reason after a month or two it normal blocks all internet access and has to be wiped and re-installed. I have read many people having this problem with it as have I.

I personally think zone alarm does a better job and blocks more but I have had the same problems with it.

Norton is crap by the way and causes all sorts of problems within windows when installed. Get rid of it and use something good and free like Avast!

Have kept to ZA 4.5.594 for years - no problems such as stopping internet access

ZoneAlarm has never blocked my access at all, nor did it interfere with Norton when I used that.

Mines blocked over 530,000 since install, and over 25,700 odd have been high rated, but just sitting here watching they are rising constantly. :eek:

Its normal, don't worry about it.
