Never played this game when it first came out and saw it about 18 months ago so picked it up and been playing it the last few days.

What an absolutely brilliant game. I don't quite understand how a game with such a simple concept and really basic controls and combat managed to keep me hooked throughout.

The 'levels' are beautiful and well designed, the puzzle's are complex enough that you feel smug each time you complete one but not too hard that you spend too much time thinking 'What am I supposed to do?'.
The story is great too. There are only about 20 lines of dialogue but that didn't stop me...
**Slight Spoiler**
...jumping without hesitation when the bridge started to retract near the end of the game.
**End**

I really can't say how much I enjoyed playing this game, it just goes to show that we don't need next-gen graphics and chainsaw-guns to have a great game (although chainsaw guns are great).

My PS3 didn't do the best job of running it like and it looked pretty pixelated (more so than a PS2 title should be) for the most part. I think it didn't help being played on a, by 'olden days' standard, massive TV.

Anyway, I'm sure most people here have, but if you haven't played Ico, pick it up. In terms of enjoyment, I've never been as consistently happy whilst playing through a game as I have been playing this one.

Finally, is it worth a second playthrough? I found one 'secret room' that game me a secret weapon just past the waterfall level. Are there many more hidden rooms?
Also, is Shadow of the Colossus in a similar vein? i.e puzzle based? I think I'll try that out too.

Bring on the new one with the baby griffin :)

Good to hear it, the game just felt, for lack of a better term, 'magical' for me. Really something special.

It's worth a second playthrough at some point as you have now unlocked a new difficulty level, but also, the subtitles shown in the game will now be in English so you can see what the characters are really saying, as opposed to just guessing.

SoTC is very, very good. I preferred Ico but it's still worth a play. It's quite a different game actually, imagine a game that just revolves around boss fights and you're pretty much there. The game is all about navigating your way to where the next boss resides, killing said boss and then repeating. But these bosses really are something to be seen.

I totally agree (as gay as that sounds ;))

That alone is reason enough :)

Sounds pretty good, I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

Sorry for poor quality. Near enough Mint, the edge of the box is just a bit tatty and thats it.

I got SotC not long ago for £18 from a retailer mainly dealing with second hand goods. Probably not the best price avalible but it was in amazingly good condition and had all the cards etc.

The same place has Ico in at £12 but only at these stores:

Ballymena
Leeds

I went into a local game store today, they didn't have SotC on the shelf but, I asked, and they had one behind the counter, limited edition...

Slight snag, they had no cards.
So, I haggled them down from their 12.99, to 3.99, as that was what the original no limited edition price they were selling for.

Now, if anyone has spare cards, i'd willing take them fro a few bob :).
Email in trust.

both games are pure classics.. they left me wondering how no one else could make games like these.... The Last Guardian announcement was the best piece of news I have heard since the heady days of sotc... a warning - there is a moment in sotc that is seriously a heartbreaking, lump in your throat moment - and i never cry at chick flicks! - well almost never as i am a real geezer!! :)

I didn't know there was a SoTC that wasn't 'limited edition' afaik only ICO had both plastic and cardboard releases.
