Never played this game when it first came out and saw it about 18 months ago so picked it up and been playing it the last few days.
What an absolutely brilliant game. I don't quite understand how a game with such a simple concept and really basic controls and combat managed to keep me hooked throughout.
The 'levels' are beautiful and well designed, the puzzle's are complex enough that you feel smug each time you complete one but not too hard that you spend too much time thinking 'What am I supposed to do?'.
The story is great too. There are only about 20 lines of dialogue but that didn't stop me...
**Slight Spoiler**
...jumping without hesitation when the bridge started to retract near the end of the game.
**End**
I really can't say how much I enjoyed playing this game, it just goes to show that we don't need next-gen graphics and chainsaw-guns to have a great game (although chainsaw guns are great).
My PS3 didn't do the best job of running it like and it looked pretty pixelated (more so than a PS2 title should be) for the most part. I think it didn't help being played on a, by 'olden days' standard, massive TV.
Anyway, I'm sure most people here have, but if you haven't played Ico, pick it up. In terms of enjoyment, I've never been as consistently happy whilst playing through a game as I have been playing this one.
Finally, is it worth a second playthrough? I found one 'secret room' that game me a secret weapon just past the waterfall level. Are there many more hidden rooms?
Also, is Shadow of the Colossus in a similar vein? i.e puzzle based? I think I'll try that out too.
Bring on the new one with the baby griffin
