I just finished putting this together:

-ASRock ConRoe945G-DVI i945G SKT LGA775 onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX

-Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM

-Samsung SpinPoint P HD160JJ 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM

-BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

-Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-4200C4 Dual Channel Kit (CT2KIT6464AA53E)

-Akasa AK-ZEN-01-BK Zen Black Case - No PSU

-Antec NeoHE 500W Modular ATX2.0 PSU

It's the first time I've built a PC. It all seemed pretty straight forward, but when I tried switching it on when I'd finished, absolutely nothing happened.

What could the problem be? Like I said, nothing happens at all.

I have a feeling I may have messed up the front panel wires. There were only two slots for the power switch LED, but the wire had three connectors. This has left the power switch wire with only one of it's two connectors plugged in.

I'm very confused and don't really know what to do. Anyone got any advice?

most common mistake it the small 4-pin block that goes into the mobo somewhere near the cpu

edit: i'v re-read original post ^ignore all that above

Thats your problem there.
Take off the led and just plug the power switch onto the 2 pins its supposed to go on. The led is not important but if you feel the need you could try and salvage 1 with a 2pin connector from an old case (or even use the hdd led as the power led)

Yep, after messing around with the wires, I realised the power switch was only connected to GND. Just rearranged them and it powered up.

Wow, don't I feel stupid? :p Hey, thanks for the quick responses though. I'm sure this won't be the last problem I have...

Don't you just love that huge happy feeling you get when the PC works after being gutted that it might be faulty ;) ?

I had the same 3 socket plug to 2 pin connection. pulled one of the cables out and put it in the middle plug then snipped off the remaining third plug. Works perfect.
