Dont you just love hearing someone trying to explain GPU's to the general public it makes me laugh :D I love chris longs analogy's of what a graphics card is :p

heres the best quote "The new cards are seriously powerful. You can now get a card array as powerful as the IBM Deep Blue computer that beat Garry Kasparov at chess in the 1990s - and that is pretty powerful."

- how can he compare a computer that crunches numbers to a GPU that produces an image?? no wonder the public get confused with computers if he has anything to do with it

Sorry to be pedantic...but a GPU does just crunch numbers. It doesn't magically transport images to the screen :)

EDIT: Just watched the video. What a tool :o

what I was saying is that comparing a computer thats end goal is to produce numbers and a graphics card thats end goal is to produce images (yes through calculations  ) is a misleading analogy to the average person. hes comparing a cpu with a gpu.

Sorry. I just think it's an OK analogy myself. I think people will understand that he's just using an example of how poweful video cards are these days by comparing it to such a famous computer. My dad might be a bit confused I guess, but he can't even work a light switch :)

The guy does come across as a total loser tho, I'll grant you...

I think it's a perfectly fair analogy. It'll just be based on operations per second, it's interesting to show that there is as much computation involved in graphics today as such a powerful computer of a decade ago.
