Hi all

Well, as cool as Soundcard drivers go. :p

BUT! I've been trying to stop a process running for my X-Fi called CTXFISPI.exe.

Now apparently this is just used for the "auto detetction of headphones" and nothing else. It is not disabled via services.msc or via msconfig. Basically, I just don't like processes running if they ain't needed.

So I booted into safe mode and went into my system32 folder and renamed the .dll and .exe for this file. However, when I went back into Windows the console and other pieces of software failed to load. Nevermind, just rename the files back.... and all was well.

Although now I've made a discovery! Since renaming them back the CTXFISPI.exe process now only runs when I load the console, and when closed stops itself! :D It does not run all the time!

Can someone else please try this to confirm?

I have not restarted yet to see if it keeps doing it, but so far it's worked well.

Cheers!

Wow nice work. I just install drivers only for my X-Fi Fatality because of all the Creative processes I get bundled with.

I haven't got them installed atm but if this is true then its good news. Nice research there. :)

Hopefully someone else can confirm this for you AND me. :D

I just noticed this as well actually. I can't restart as something's running, would love to know if this is the case on more than one computer.. :)

admittedly i don't have an x-fi, but i don't see why there should be a background process to detect whether or not your headphones are plugged in?

i have that option with my audigy2 and there are definitely no background processes running. :)

Give Creative a ring and post them yer CV. Tell them you want to apply for the job of "sensiblity consultant". When they say there is no such thing, reply with "Exactly!!". ;)

Lol

they have it so when you plug headphones into a certain port, it'll disable the speakers and route the sound to the headphones instead

was very useful when i had a Game Theatre XP, had the same feature
