If your buying a router, make sure it's broadcom based, such as the Buffalo WHR-G54S or WHR-HP-G54S, which can be flashed with more advanced firmware, capable of doing much more than the average cheap sub £200 routers. Tomato is an ace firmware, been using it for a few months, solid as a rock :D Screenshots here

Way to confuse the man...

I know a bit about routers but I have no idea what you are talking about and I expect a cheap router would suit him just fine.

Indeed;but taken on board. As long as I get a good connection I am happy with performance out of the box.

I just bought an xbox 360 yesterday myself. Got COD3 and motogp 06. Love it! Sadly I'm playing on a crappy 14" tv, but not for long. Should be buying a decent monitor very shortly.

I haven't owned a games console since my Sega Megadrive, preferring to play games on pc. But after years of pc gaming, I decided to try something different, and I can safely say I'm not disappointed! :D

Bingo - yes I do. No way of connecting a USB modem to the machine and even if you could - drivers? Why they didn't put an internal modem in it I do not know. Not a major issue but still, it could not have been to hard could it?

set your PC up for internet connection sharing and plug your xbox into the back of your PC.

that's how I used to do live before getting a router.

512kb I'm guessing he meant ;)

Anyway...it would be fine for live as his upload would be no worse than someone on 2mb (such as me). 512kb is fine for gaming really.

It would be plenty - how much bandwidth do you think online gaming needs?

grrrr wanted to play some demos but this pants tv wont run at 60hz :( any way round it?! :D

Theres a way to change in the xbox settings happened to me, can't remeber the exact settings thought.

Just got mine last weekend too, premuim, pgr3, table tennis and extra controller for £270. It is amazing, just wish i had money left over for GOW and Test drive.

Must be a thing with buying Xbox 360 this weekend :)

Picked up one saturday with PGR ana table tennis (that game rocks!) then bought Burnout revenge and Just Cause.

I am very impressed with it, got a gold live membership, though not played online yet, just downloaded frogger and pacman :P

only downside is the noise, but the plus side is, it looks the mutts on a 42" HD plasma with the VGA cable:D
