Picked up a DS-Lite yesterday. Bought one because I fancied something to play on which could free up time on the main tv / 360 for my mrs (didn't want another tv in the house) and I liked the adventure / relaxing direction the DS was taking over the more action oriented psp.

So far I've picked up

Brain Training (not sure why I got it, felt it was one of these 'must' have games.
Hotel Dusk - which I'm 2 hours in and loving it. It's like an interactive novel more than a game but this is why I got the DS; to relax with.
Phoenix Wright Justice for All - Not played it yet but looks like the sort of game I might want

I've also got Puzzle Quest - Challenge of the Warlords on order for £15.

What other games would people recommend?

FFIII has stood out, as has Chocoba Tales? though I'm worried this could be a tad 'kiddie'. Any spryro games worth picking up and should I look to pick up the first Phoenix Wright game first?

I've also seem references to 'farenheit'? or something like that, what's this called and is it any good?

I've after story driven adventure games, what are peoples favourites?

Do people bother with these screen films to protect them? I got some free but didn't bother sticking one on until today. Tbh it lasted only a few minutes as the air pockets made it look pretty ropey and I can't see how I'd actually scratch it with the stylus.

How does the wifi stuff work? Do I need an additional card to get this to work a) with other DS's and b) with my wireless router & internet.

I've also found after playing nothing but the 360 for 18 months how nice it is not to think about achievements; refreshing and thought provoking.

Cheers,

I don't bother with the screen protectors - though if you had left it the air bubbles would have disappeared after a couple of minutes.

The Wifi is set on a per-game basis. It will work with any router as long as it's not running WPA.

It's annoying when things only support WEP. WEP is only good for preventing people connecting to your network by accident, it doesn't actually make it secure.

Negative. The DS is fairly fussy about what routers it runs on.

That, I did not know. Never had a problem with any of the netgear routers (or an orange livebox) I've connected to..

I think BT charges for openzone.

Yes, they do, but they had a deal with Nintendo to offer free wireless gaming for the DS, not sure if it still standing though, the only OpenZones round here are maccies and I avoid there if I can :)

Well, this nearly a week now.

Brain Training gets 5 minutes here and there, glad I've got it.
Hotel Dusk has received 4/5 hours and I'm really into it.
Phoenix Wright hasn't been put in yet.

My problem however is...

Animal Crossing: Wide World

Got this as I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I thought the mrs and my daughter would like it.

I'm a 33 year old man and I can't put it down. I'm so ashamed.

Tell me about it

Forgot to say, if you want some good wifi games for the DS, try Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Metroid Prime Hunters. All good games and very good over wifi.

As someone said before Wifi is easy to setup unless you have WPA security, then you will need the usb dongle to get it going, if you are happy with WEP, it should work straight away.

You mentioned FF3, I have this and enjoy it (I'm 34), it's certainly not a kids game. Find myself playing it for hours on end, I also am currently enjoying Mario Hoops and 42 all time classics which you can also play over wifi.

There's so many good games to choose from and so many coming out, you've made a good choice.

I use a screen protector on my bottom screen as that is the one you use the most, mainly to prevent scratching it but you'll get differing opinions on here and other forums about them, personally I prefer to have one on.

Enjoy your DS.

I've had no problems using the DS WIFI on our BT router. I've also got it running fine on BT Openzone without paying a penny, because as has been mentioned, they have a deal going.

I use screen protectors, though I think the screen is pretty hardy anyway.

The best games I've played are:

Mario Kart
Tetris DS
Kirby: Canvas Curse
Elite Beat Agents (though I will now call down the Ouendan purists, I'm sure!)
Meteos

It's also well worth picking up Zelda: The Minish Cap for the GBA if you've not played it before.

In related news, you've not lived till you've thrashed some Japanese dude at wireless Tetris while sat on the loo.

I'm just playing New Super Mario Bros. I'm quite ashamed to admit I find it a bit on the hard side :o
Me too. It is bloody hard on some bits.

Definitly get the first phoenix wright before you play justice for all, other games I would recomend

42 games in one - really good fun and class to play with your mates
Lunar Knights - really enjoying this class little RPG at the mo
Wario Ware - really fun mini games time and time again
Trauma Center - great fun
Mario Cart - awsome racing game must have now you own a DS
Micro Machines V4 - another really good fun racing game
New Super Mario Bros - another class game but is very difficult at points

You already got some class games bud so just keep collecting :D

Without a doubt one of the most enjoyable and satisfying smiley games since the Katamari's on the PS2.
I prefer the tunes on Elite Beat Agents, so sue me! ;)
I defy anyone to play the 'Makes no difference' level and not crack a smile!!
:D

That aside, other games I'd recommend:
Touch Golf
Konami classics (for Gradius)
Trauma Centre
Puyo Puyo 15th Anniversary (If you can find it)
Point Blank DS
Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow

I didn't like Phoenix Wright 1 (I have it for sale if you're interested? £12inc), it was too linear and annoyed me, but the concept is really excellent, so worth a try if you get the chance.
The sequel might be better, I don't know, not had a chance to give it a go.
Spyro is a total let down, I'm a big fan of the series, but it's a dead duck on the DS so far.
