just got a random add from some guy on steam, wanting bills hat on tf2... he traded me for a steam game thats currently £18.99 (before people say, i know it was on offer over xmas etc)

what the hell... its a hat.... i dont even play tf2 anyways :D

Anyone else got one of the hats? seems like they must be rare or something, either way, id get rid for a new game (that il probably never play)

I got one a couple of weeks ago (painted gold) I traded my strange huntsman for it. Bills do seem to attract some value roughly around 10 keys atm - the vintage ones - which are hyper rare currently worth about 2 buds or 56 keys.

i have no idea what buds or keys are, so in light of that... i think i still rather the game :D

i only ever play TF2 at lans, so losing a hat is nothing... if anyone wants one of my other ones just shout haha.
 
Bill's hat is worth a fair bit, but the white earbuds are worth a lot more. Though it's hard to put a monetary value on either, because while people are willing to trade items worth £30 or so for buds they won't ever actually give you £30 :D

The reason they're so rare is because they were only ever available for a limited time (bill's hat for pre-ordering l4d2 I think? and buds when the mac version of TF2 was launched, and if you logged in with the mac version during that time), and therefore there's a finite amount of them in circulation...they therefore effectively became a currency for trading. As there are fewer buds than bills, buds are worth more. :)
 
You can sell items on the market place for "real" money now, never mind trading for some keys, get your item listed if you want cash for it.
 
I got a vintage bills hat and earbuds people add me all the time wanting them. I say I want £1000 for them, as yet know one has met my valuation :/
 
You should get rid of them (for £££) while people still care about them in my opinion! They're unlikely to go up much in value now, and tbh TF2 will become outdated eventually...

Bills was for preordering L4D2 I think.
Adn I think the earbuds were for playing TF2 when it was reelased within the first week or something for mac.

I'm not sure about the vintage bill's, there are price spreadsheets for tf2 items online though (just search for tf2 spreadsheet)...so you can do some research and find out pretty easily :) Basically, they'll tell you their value in "keys"...and you can buy keys (with money) from Valve's store, so just check the price in your local currency and you'll get a starting point. Generally speaking you'll get less than that in real money, but you'll know if someone is trying to pull one on you if they're offering like 1/10th the amount :D
