Just Got A Load of Spyware Installed from Filezilla

Had to completely blitz a PC because of non-removable spyware.... places like sourceforge had people's respect and they are gonna blow themselves out the water if they keep it up. (as a legitimate site that is)

FileZilla has it's own site, why would you download elsewhere?

Bundled junkware and rubbish comes with every installer from websites like that, you spend more time unclicking "free offers" than you do installing the damn thing.

Unclicking doesn't always work.

I came badly unstuck a month or two ago under circumstances similar to OP.

I carefully read the various install pages and unpicked all the "Free offers" and they just went ahead and installed anyway!

Got it sorted enventually but it was a right PITA!

Quoted for Truth. Don't use sourceforge anymore. It installed the crud regardless - all boxes unticked.

I noticed this last year. Don't use source forge anymore. They went from open source to the exact opposite.

But if you don't use Firefox then yeah, .zip version instead of FileZilla.

that's how freeware software is increasingly being funded now. Installing adware with the software. You just have to be supercareful and not just click yes,agree during the installation process. Always click on on custom install as well so you can opt out of the adware.

If you think about it, who is paying for these zilla programs? Sure as hell no user is donating money to them. Perhaps 0.1% of corporations pay the corporate user license but even then I bet the IT people are thinking "what the heck, there's going to be so much paperwork and admin, and then have to get approval from finance" I'm just going to install it and not pay for commercial use.

It's all dandy but firefox crashes about 40 times a day for me. Horrible with flash.

Firefox also does not install google.co.uk search extension now, whenever i search it takes me to google.com and find australia specific search results for some reason.

I installed a google uk search addon and that tells google to only list websites based in the UK or with .co.uk extension.

Really don't need to bloat firefox any more with ftp.
