Hey guys, just got myself a NAS for the first time. It's an Icy Box IB-NAS4220-B.

Is there a way I can just add my 2TB hard drive to it which has all my media, without having to format it and therefore losing it all?

Help would be appreciated. :)

Nope. And I warn you, those things are rubbish. Mine kept dropping disks from the array and I had to wipe and rebuild multiple times. I was using WD Greens also

OK, been doing some more research on this (really should have done that before buying the ICY BOX...)...

It seems there is going to be a new version of Windows Home Server released sometime this year. I think I will delay my NAS project until this has been released, buy that and go from there.

May I recommend (if you have the money) a Drobo FS? We use Drobo FS and the more expensive Drobo Pro and Drobo Elite's at work and they are very good especially the ability to mix disks.

Windows Home Server is another good option or if you just want NAS or iSCSi then FreeNAS or OpenFiler aren't too shabby but you'll need to get your hands dirty. Servers of any type will use more electricity that a dedicated NAS device though...
