Hi,

I just this minute got a PS3 from a friend (am going to trade him some PC parts that I will be replacing from OCUK soon).

I got a PS3 with composite, and want to plug it in to a monitor with DVI-D. I need a HDMI PS3 cable and a HDMI to DVI converter right, and that should work flawlessly? I also have a second monitor that is not DVI-D it is just DVI, what happens if I try to play a game thru it with a HDMI converter?

Second - he managed to lose the manuals and stuff for it, and just wondered how the online store thing works? if I want to buy tekken, what do I do? Buy it with a credit card right?

The HDMI to DVI converter should work fine.

Purchases on the Playstation Store are done with a credit card. You just need to make an account and log in and assign your card to your account. I done it by making an account, trying to buy something with no money and link it from there. It means that i just spend what i need on the particular game. Not sure if you can assign like £10, £20 etc to the account or not.

If your monitor is HDCP compliant then using a HDMi to DVi converter should work fine, i dont think if the other monitor is just DVI that it will display anything other 576i. Quite a few people on here have tried using DVI/D to some degree of success, im sure they will be able to help you out.
As for the manual most of it you can read online, there's a link to it and more info on the PS3 FAQs in the stickies on the top the page.

My dell 2007 says that it is HDCP compliant... What about audio? will that be fine thru the red/white audio connectors?

Sorry for stupid questions but JUSt set it up at the moment (he literally dumped it to the floor and said there ya go like 15 minutes ago!) and I need to buy cables and stuff :(

Lol there not stupid just that they have been asked many times before, but aint a problem.
Yes you can just use the composite cables for audio, you may have to do a reset on the console, hold the power "button" down for a few extra seconds on booting and it will do a double beep. This resets all the audio/display settings and forces an auto detect for HDMI. Once you have a display goto to the settings and goto sound settings and select the appropriate output either A/V, hdmi, or Digital out, for you A/V unless you have an amp with an optical input.

Thanks a LOT for the help -

Just one more question :P

HDMI cables use audio inbuilt right? so a HDMI to DVI will obviously grant me no sound, so does that mean I just use the AV multi out on the console as well?

Sorry about this :P I have not barely slept all weekend, and need to go to bed in a few because of tomorrows work, so don't have really the time for research (and my eyes are bleeding from composite!)

Update!

I am now enjoying the PS3 on my Dell :) Sound works perfectly, I am just using a HDMI to DVI converter I got out of a well known eletronics store.

This plugs directly in to a standard monitor DVI, and am using the standard AV out to power my stero for sound.

Downloading Tekken 5 Online now... I hope it has a Single player mode! O.o

Yup, although from what I've played, it seems all the characters are unlocked from the start... so there isn't much of a reward value in playing the single player.

Hmmm, thats odd... I read that if you compete arcade mode 3 times all the stages get unlocked... just completed it 3 times with different characters and nothing happened other than Jinpachi got unlocked :/

*EDIT* it worked after 4 times :/ it must have glitched :P
