i know they are out in japan, but is there an indication of buying them in a brick and mortar shop in merry old england?

Wireless is set up and created an account. All is well.

Now onto connecting my laptop up to the PS3.

Do you have to do this by LAN? Via the RJ45 / Ethernet connection on the back?

I take it your laptop isn't wireless?

CAT5 from PS3 to Laptop would be fine I'd assume, I used the router on mine until I went wireless.

Well the laptop can be wireless but the drivers are being a pain. Need time to search around for the drivers to try and get it working.

Can they be plugged directly together or have to through a router?

I think you would need crossover cable for that - otherwise a router inbetween
