Just got asked for ID.....

I once went to the petrol station to fill my car up when I was 18 and my brother asked me to get him some ciggys. The lady asked me for ID and I didnt have it with me but I said I have just filled up my car and I am about to put this on my credit card is that good enough? She agreed it was :)

I was with my sister in a bar once and the barman asked her if she had any ID and she replied with "No, I am 26" and he said "Sorry, we have to ask" then served her anyway

then get the 5 quid ID that isnt your passport or license but still counts. anything with the PASS shiney Logo is accepted.

its really not that hard.
people ask because they are now personally responsible, if you let someone slip through the net you (personally, not the company you work for) can get fined £2500, and a criminal record. the shop can also loose its license and have a unlimited fine placed on it. give the seller a break and dont turn a small 5 second operation into a ordeal.

To the poster who remarked something along the lines of "People just love the power of asking for ID".

No - it is not like that at all.
People ask for ID because if they don't and it is a sting operation then it is them who end up getting fined.
Some people seem to think it is just the store who end up getting into trouble - it isn't.
I've never worked in a position where ages need to be checked, however I tell you now that if I did I'd check the ID of anyone who even remotely looked like they might be below age because at the end of the day I don't want to be out of pocket on the deal.

oh yes, the fines are heavy for the cashiers involved. we have 'mystery shoppers' regularly at our place, which keeps us on our toes. they are usually underage, ie multi coloured braces and plaited hair on a girl that looks 12....asking for 20 embassy lol. but you never know with them lol

I got asked for ID last night at a bar in Newquay. He only IDed me out of the 6 friends I was with but no big deal.

The really funny part?

"This doesn't make you old enough mate"

Me: "Errr yes it does. It makes me 19 "mate""

He apologised and looked like a right fool. If you're going to ID someone at least know some basic maths.

This is why I recently got around to getting my provisional license because carrying around my passport was taking its toll - the thing looks like its about 50 years old not 3/4 ...

You think this is bad, I got asked for ID in the US when I ordered some drinks in a bar. They are so paranoid about underage drinking there (ie. 21) that they ask anyone who looks under 40 for ID. I could have kissed the guy - as I'm 44.

Take it as a compliment, baby face.

i know a kid who got asked for id when buying nuts from a shop :D he's 16 but real short.
He also got refused red bull in his own college:confused:

It's easier just buying things online these days, since there is no age verification you can buy alcohol at any age anywhere that accepts solo or visa electron. So much better than having to carry your passport around or paying an extortionate £45 for a provisonal licence.

I actually have a provisional license, came back with my license when I got it, so will carry that fromnow on.

no way, how longs that been closed down for then, I used to love going there when I were a lad :), I really don't mind Plymouth that much, when I was staying there I used to keep in and around Mutley Plain, I quite liked it, perhaps it's was because of being brought up on dodgy council estates that I thought it was allright :o.

Early last year. Police raided it lol

Couple guys went to jail for possession of class A's. They emptied everyones pockets, then sent them on their way.

There was rumors of it reopening where millennium use to be (across the road), but nothing has been confirmed. The building sits empty now. They can't knock it down due to it being listed, and nobody wants the job of cleaning the place up.

SOunds like a typical jobsworth. Its annoying when it happens but then again they're just doing their jobs---> drving licence in your wallet next time i guess but I'd be peeved at your age as well as slightly flattered.
